Need help with a CD drive

For Christmas I bought my wife an IBM Think Pad 760 (used and with no
manuals). The seller also sold me a portable CD drive (8-20x) kit. I
never have gotten the CD drive to work right. The first time I installed
it (and a modem as well) it worked but did not play audio CD's. In trying
to fix that I somehow trashed the OS -- it would only load in safe mode.
With some helpful advice (thanks, Cowboy), I was able to restore the system
from a cab file I did not know existed. Tonight I tried the CD again and
it does not work. I have:Windows 98 (SE) 4.10.222A. The bootlog reads
failure at several points:Loadfailed = ndis2sup.vxd
deviceinitfailed = MTRR
incompletefailed = SDVXD
init failure cd20xrom.mpdSystem / properties tells me the device was not dynamically installed and
gives the error message "This device is either not present, not working
properly, or does not have all the drivers installed (Code 10)"Several attempts to reinstall from the supplied diskette or from windows
was not successful ... it was the same driver.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
