Need help with St. Augustine's City of God book

Posted by: homenews <homenews@...>

Hi Hope Chest Readers,

This is Mary Knowles, Virginia's daughter. I'm wondering if you ladies
can help me with a research request.

I am writing a 5-6 page essay so I can compete in a scholarship at The
King's College in New York City. The topic of the essay is the most
important book ever written, besides the Bible. I've narrowed it down to
two books: City of God, by St. Augustine, and The Pilgrim's Progress, by
John Bunyan.

Right now I'm leaning toward City of God. I need to write about the
impact that the book has had on culture, values, or government. All my
research has been giving me things like "Augustine had an impact on the
way people view heaven and earth," but I need concrete details. This is
where you all could help me. Do you know of any specific ways that the
City of God has impacted culture, values or government? The essay is due
Dec. 31, but I need to know soon whether there's enough potential in
writing about City of God.

Also, I'm still considering The Pilgrim's Progress (it's a shorter read
-- 300 pages v. 1000 for City of God), so if you have any details about
its impact, those would be great to have. My main reservation about doing
PP is that someone else is more likely to write about it also.

Thanks!
Mary
