NSOpenPanel file types

Experiencing a problem with NSOpenPanel and selectable file types in the LegacyAPISurvey app. Although I've set the allowed file types to "app" (see openDocument: method in LegacyAPISurveyAppDelegate.m), the open panel (File > Open) allows selection of all file types. However, if I copy my openDocument: method into a new Cocoa project, it works as expected.

Can someone here show me what I'm doing wrong?
