There's a really funny thread in the Dilbert archive about the year 2000
problem and COBOL programmers. The URL is:

While we're off topic, here's one of my favorites:
FRAME 1
Garbageman to Dilbert: I couldn't help noticing the bugs in the program on
this old diskette you threw away.
FRAME 2
Garbageman: I fixed the bugs and tightened the code from twelve thousand
lines to sixteen.
FRAME 3
Dilbert: It took me three months to write that program.
Garbageman (holding up a sheet of paper): I took the liberty of updating
your resume. I'm guessing you'll need it soon.
