ON THESE WE THINK

God is good and great and holy; on these we think,
at length;
For to our aid he quickly comes, in him we find
our strength;
We cannot plumb his wisdom nor exhaust his matchless grace,
Against him none can run so fast to win the winding race.
Below we groan from trials; we chafe when times are tough
on earth,
Believing all our ways are filled with pain, from days
of birth;
We live in dusty shadows, hide in darkened halls from fear,
With trembling hands and weakened feet, eyes blind from
seeing near.
>From news of evil guard yourself. Beware of the world's
despair!
We cannot read and see the devil's work where grace is rare,
And think we'll still escape its leaven, for Satan worms
his way
To penetrate our armor, to kill our urge to praise and pray.
That God in glory reigns above, from heaven all he sees,
That angels quickly do his bidding, disciples seek
to please,
That comes the day of justice, when the books decide
our fate —
On these the saints must build their faith and deeply
meditate.
