We lived near the city of Grants Pass, well we lived out in the mountains but that was the closest city.
I loved it the land. It did sorta "breath" rain a lot. It was cold in the winters like I like. We had snow.
The soil was rich, the view magnificent. The summer was not bad.
But it was costly to buy land there, since so many of the retirees from Southern California came up
there to retire and they had money to spend on land which drove prices up. There were not lots of
jobs. Many folk were loggers or miners. Tons of old hippies and New Agers. The New agers
heavily influenced the area. Lots of wiccans. Lots of pot growers out in the mountains. In the
summer we would have DEA helicopters fly over us daily as they searched for pot growers.
We had no problem home schooling, but we were not close enough to anyone or any school for
them to know we had children that were school age.
The area is just so beautiful, but in southern Oregon you do have lots and lots of strange people.
There is one group we used to see at the park all the time, they were from some commune.
They all dressed like Bible times, men in long robes with long beards and hair, women with
long robe type dresses and flowing veils. Many children. They were some sort of Nazarite sect.It was certainly the prettiest place I have ever lived ! And that is saying a lot since I lived on a
Kibbutz on the Sea of Galilee and that was pretty.
Lovingly,
Pat
