Pat,Thank you for stirring up some old college memories for me. While attending
Bible college my senior year I was assigned a foreign roomate. Kyung Hee
was from Korea and that was 18 years ago. She was very much old world. She
used to make Kim Chi in her closet. It would stink our whole room up but I
still loved her! It got to the place that the college administration
forbade the students from making Kim Chi in their rooms because it would
smell for days. A memory that was stirred was the day of my college
graduation. Kyung Hee was so thrilled to meet my parents for the first
time. She walked into our room where several students were hanging out and
extended both arms and with a big grin on her face said "I shave my arms
like American girl!" The room broke out into laughter as I'm sure my face
showed the horror. Kyung Hee was horrified and knew she'd done something
wrong. I made everyone leave the room as my poor roomate cried. I
explained to her that when American girls say they shave their arms they
mean their underarms. Two years later Kyung Hee was as American as an
person born and raised here. She would burst out in laughter at the
recollection of graduation day. She had intended to be a missionary to
China but when she returned to Korea after her graduation she met an
American Serviceman, married him and returned to the states. Sometimes I
wonder what she is doing with her life....thanks for the memory
jolt.....Deanna
