Dear Hope Chest readers,Thanks for your feedback on the Purity issue that I sent out last Friday. I'd love to hear from more of you, because it will help me to figure out how to approach the upcoming issues on Modesty and Preparation for Marriage. I have decided to wait a bit before doing the remaining reviews of books on Purity. I will try to combine these with ones on Modesty and Preparation for Marriage, because there is so much overlap. One Hope Chest reader clicked who clicked on the Philokalia web site to see the I Will Follow book mentioned that on the same web page, there is a photo on a book cover that you may not want your children to see.I am going to the Florida Parent-Educators Association home school convention, which is Thursday through Saturday this week. I will see what I can find there, too. I hope to see some of YOU there, too! I think Faithful Bookshop still has some copies of my books left to bring to their FPEA convention booth, so take a look! (You can also see info at http://www.thehopechest.net/ResourceOrders.html)I also wanted to let you know about a new CD that will be a great addition to your music collection, and is sure to be loved by parents and teens alike. Songs for the Cross Centered Life is based on C.J. Mahaney's book, The Cross Centered Life. I don't have it yet, since it JUST came out, but I have heard some of it at church. I have an earlier Sovereign Grace CD, All We Long to See, which I taped to listen to while I walk in the mornings. It has been a constant encouragement to ignite my heart for the Lord.If you log onto the web page (http://www.sovereigngraceministries.org/music/projects/crosssongs/) you can hear sample clips of all the songs, see a video interview of C.J. Mahaney with Josh Harris, and order the CD. Here is the blurb from the web page:A first for Sovereign Grace Ministries, Songs for the Cross Centered Life is a worship CD inspired by a book. What the book does in print, this CD does in 14 cross-centered songs, five of which are new and eleven are updated favorites from earlier recordings. The CD includes a booklet that contains the entire first chapter from The Cross Centered Life, making the project an inspiring reminder of how to preach the gospel to ourselves and equipping us with songs by which to do this."My heart is filled with a thousand songs proclaiming the glories of Calvary. This line from the chorus of The Glories of Calvary by Steve and Vikki Cook explains why we produced Songs for the Cross Centered Life. Using various musical styles ranging from Celtic to pop, from classical to gospel rock, we extol the glories of the Lamb who was slain for our sins. Some of the songs may be familiar, some youll be hearing for the first time. But all of them are simply a distant echo of the glorious new song being sung around the heavenly throne. Our prayer is that as you listen, you will be drawn to worship the Savior whose cross will ever be the center of our lives. Bob Kauflin, Director of Worship Development for Sovereign Grace Ministries.
"I'm no singer (ask my friends), but I love to sing about the cross. A Christian's heart should be brimming every day with the song of Calvary.... If like me you can't play an instrument, worship to recorded music. There is no better way to start each day than to employ songs and hymns that speak of the cross with clarity and power." C.J. Mahaney, from The Cross Centered Life
Well, that's all for now!
Blessings,
