re: aware of modesty

always shocked by what my little nieces (11 and 9) are wearing. >>

I have been wearing dresses almost 90% of the time for almost 2 years now
and have been trying to impress upon my daughter (8yr) for quite some time
the whole idea of modesty and how she should respect herself, and not
"prance". I have bought many skirts, dresses and floofy shorts for her
and slowly the jeans are coming up missing. I do let her wear them once in
a while when I know that it just might be more modest to do so. I have
bought her this tiny stringing thing they call a training bra (hee hee) but
it does do the trick for what she needs for some of her tops and dresses. I
had an awful time trying to figure out what to do for swimming.
Unfortunately, she is from a split home, her father and I divorcing when
she was two. He has remarried and has established a new home which
includes new wardrobe too. His new wife is at least 15 years older than we
are so you would think that she would have the views of some modesty.
BUT NO!
She must be having a mid-life crisis or something. She never had any girls
and I think that she is using my daughter as her barbie. I have spoken to
my X about this and all I can continue to do is impress upon her what I can
about my beliefs and what God wants. Luckily, ( I guess) he
still is not the family man and only sees the kids when it is convenient or
if there is a "family" event going on.
