I have been using the Zoom B-3. Inexpensive, and enough for what I need. I also use a Boss Super Chorus pedal I had for years if I need a heavy chorus for a Jaco like sound.

Subject: [CB] [GEAR] Bass Effects
Hello all,
I hate bringing up a fairly worn subject, but I suddenly find myself in a new situation.I play with a fellow who is a quite-sophisticated singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist. The latest batch of tunes he's throwing out contain a number of bass solos (God help us all!). He has suggested I use some effects to set the sound apart. Up until now I have been loathe to use effects, but what the heck.
Anyway, some years ago I picked up a BOSS ME-50 but have never really used it b/c the sounds just seemed rather weak. At least, the standard ones I lean toward: delay, chorus, etc.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Ted
PS. May actually post church-related content soon, as I suddenly find myself back in that kind of situation, too.
