RE: A couple of minor problems

Deborah,

I can't answer the question about the Ethernet but the clock is a
common problem in Win95/98/98SE. See the following page for additional
information.
support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q189/7/06.ASP

MS thinks it has to do with running 3rd party anti-virus, screen
savers or using power management in BIOS. I have the same problem and
use a freeware atomic clock program that I run every time I log onto
the internet to hold the windows clock. As you stated rebooting will
also restore the correct time.

I know that there are also clock programs that will dial the internet,
log on, and correct the time for you according to a set schedule. Some
of these are for sale and some are freeware. Unfortunately I have not
investigated these and can make no recommendations. My employer uses
this method to keep the clocks correct but of course there we have a
LAN and are nearly always connected. So it is not a big deal. jc

Subject: [CCMag] A couple of minor problems

Greetings

The campus dean of by Bible College has asked me for advice on a
few little problems he is having with his computer - background and
info as follows....

He installed a cable modem, ethernet card into fairly new
computer, removed old modem, now speakers click all the time. Is
this related to the installation of cable modem? Is it possible that
this would be an interrupt thing?

Clock losing an hour regularly but not requiring reset after reboot.
I think he should replace battery - but it is only a year old. I have
never had a battery fail like this. I know there was a thread on this
a while ago but with the archive situation being non-existant I can't
check back.

Deb
