Re: Monitor cracking

Yup. I know what that is. It's bad news.

This usually happens just before the things burn out. My last monitor was
91 DAYS old from CompUSA, and of course, it had a 90 day warranty. I
noticed it crackling and popping, but didn't think much of it...until I got
up in the middle of the night when the smoke alarm went off. And I got a
snoot full of putrid-smelling electrical-fire smoke. The air vents at the
top of the monitor were completely black. Fortunately, it didn't burn the
house down. CompUSA would NOT want to take it back -- until I sort of
promised to hang around their store telling all their potential customers
my story...the manager saw the err of her ways, and refunded my $179.99 + tax.

If you're under warranty, I'd take it back now, before you have to call the
fire department!
