Hey Susan and everyone! Wow Susan ... your summer sounds busy! I am thrilled
to hear your daughter and son-in-law will be moving close to y'all. As you
know, my 2 children are still young -- 13 and soon to be 9 -- I cannot
imagine them moving far away! I would miss them so! My 9 year old plans on
living next door! 😀 My 13 year old believes she will be a missionary and
she wants to live in South America (This totally distresses her dad in light
of the recent events with missionaries there!) The thought of her living so
far from us causes an ache in my heart, but I also know that she will go
wherever God sends her in this life -- whether as a missionary overseas or as
a wife and mother in a neighboring state or wherever! Just hard to fathom
letting them go! Can God really take care of them as well as I can? Does He
really love them as much as I do? I KNOW the answers -- They are in better
care in His hands than mine and He actually loves them more than I do (that
is so hard for me to believe!) -- but knowing those answers and really
accepting them are 2 different things!OK -- on to books....
You mentioned starting the Left Behind series last summer -- so did my
husband and he read everyone that was out at that time right in a row. This
is more reading than I have seen him do in our almost 19 years of marriage!
He is not the reader here -- I am! He bought and read the Mark this fall and
he is anxiously awaiting the new one coming out this fall -- Desecration.
That said -- I read 2 and that was it for me. They are very easy to read and
not hard to follow, but I did not enjoy reading them. As I have stated
earlier on this list, my hub has never read or studied about the end times, I
have. I think his lack of knowledge really added to his interest in these
books -- he was learning. It lead him to ask questions and seek answers.
Also, they depressed me -- seriously! I know all the terrible things the
Bible tells us will happen during those days --I am confident that I will not
be left behind, but I have family and friends that will unless their hearts
change before that time -- so reading all these horrors made me ache for
them. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but that is my take on the series.
I do think they are good books and can possibly be used in an unbelievers
life. I do wonder if there are those who read them as total fiction -- you
know -- they don't think any of this will happen.> I'm mainly a non-fiction reader - I love Corrie Ten Boom's books (if you
> haven't read "The Hiding Place", run, don't walk to your nearest library or
> Christian bookstore and get a copy!)OK -- Confession time! I have The Hiding Place and Tramp for the Lord and
have read neither one! I see them every so often and think "I need to read
those" - I have thought of reading The Hiding Place with my 13 yodd. She
loves books about missionaries and Christian leaders. She has read DCTalk's
Jesus Freaks -- from that and our talks and readings about missionaries, she
understands persecution -- so that would not overwhelm or upset her.> Carmichael too. I enjoy books by

>I have fallen in love with Amy Carmichael! Her writings are so to the point
and poignant. I am not familiar with the other writers you listed above,
although I recently heard someone mention Elizabeth George. Could you share
some books by her and the others that you would recommend?> I lead a small group Bible Study in my home once a week. I recommended the

> the ladies said it totally changed her life!OH this sounds great! I do have a regular Quiet Time, but I am always looking
for books like this! Love to read anything that might encourage that time and
lead me to a new level of worship. Did you know Elizabeth Elliott is
retiring from Gateway of Joy in August and DeMoss is taking over? I can't
remember if it will continue under the Gateway name or not.> I also have been reading books like "Share Jesus Without Fear" by William
> Fay. I wonder if any of you have read that and have used his approach.
>Hey! I did that study -- it is a good one. I love his approach. Now, have I
used it -- well sort of and recently. Witnessing is an area I struggle with -
I am one of those folks who worry what the other person will think -- "She
will think I am a nut" "I will be embarrassed" "What is I mess it all up and
stutter and stumble" -- you know what I mean! Anyway -- recently I was
confronted with my sister-in-laws lostness -- she made a comment about not
wanting Jesus in her heart -- she had God in her heart - she didn't need a
middle man. I knew I could not let that slide, so I started talking with her.
I did not have the opportunity to go through all the questions and scriptures
taught in Share Jesus, BUT I know that I was totally open tot he Holy
Spirit's leading -- I prayed quickly and quietly before I started talking for
God to push me out of the way and let His Spirit work -- I was amazed at some
of the things I said -- scriptures that came to mind -- it was truly the
Spirit working through me which is the jest of Share Jesus -- get out of the
way and let the Spirit work. SO while there was no great conversion at that
time, seeds were planted and my heart has been burdened to pray diligently
for her and I am more open now to God using me this way -- with her or
anyone. I think He allowed this event to occur to build my confidence and see
that I would not die or embarrassment or whatever!> What approach DO you use when sharing your faith? Has anyone read "The Case
> for Christ" and "The Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel?
>I have been wanting to read The Case for Christ -- didn't realize he had one
on faith. There is a Case for Christ for Teens also. Isn't this the book
where he set out to prove that Christ wasn't who he said he was and along the
way he found Christ?> Another great book for moms is The Contemplative Mom: Restoring Rich

I have tried to read The Excellent Wife and Me, Obey Him? but never finished
each -- let me quickly say that God had walked me through the struggle with
submission before I found these books and I think that is why they did not
appeal to me. I LOVE Elizabeth Elliott's book The Shaping of A Christian
Family. Other books? I know I have read others, but what??? In all honesty
God has used His Word so much in the struggles of my life and to enrich our
marriage. Also, I find that often its the books I read for me that help in my
marriage -- know what I mean? As I grow in Christ, I become the wife and
mother He has called me to be.I love the book Stepping Heavenward by Mrs. E. Prentiss. It touched my heart
in a way I cannot express and was a life changing book for me. It is fiction,
but there is a tremendous amount of truth in it!> My youngest daughter

I just finished Peretti's The Hangman's Curse -- gonna write a separate post
about it in a sec and I started Beth Moore's Praying God's Word this a.m.
Good so far -- as usual with her writings. Thanks for chatting with us Susan! You are always good to stir things up when
we get slack around here!I am headed out tomorrow to shop with my mom at a nearby town and will be
going to a Christian Book outlet, now I have MORE books to add to my list! I
really want that DeMoss book! it sounds great! Now where will I put all
these...........Barb C.
