Re: So Many Books...

Posted by: Blc914 <Blc914@...>

Hello Susan! I am rapidly become a more of a nonfiction reader. I read a
fiction book (Child of Grace) last weekend -- that tends to be how I read
fiction these days -- pick a book, sit down read it, move on..... but I find
I have several nonfiction ones going at once! I just started Kay Arthur's Our
Covenant God. I have about 3 chapters left of Feathers in My Nest and 1 in A
Place of Quiet Rest. I finished A Gentle Thunder by Lucado. I have soooo
many in my too read stack ... waayyy to many. We went to Books A Million
Friday and then to Family Christian Store yesterday and I bought nothing for
me! My family wonders if I am ill! Ü I just explained that 1) I had lots to
read at home and 2) Christmas is coming!!!! Gotta leave them something to buy
me! Ü

Thought I would comment on the books you mentioned.....

Sounds like a great book and very timely -- may have to add this one to my
want list

Super book even for non-empty nesters like me!

Would this be OK to read to the kids (ages 13 & 9)? We are about to finish a
missionary biography called Bruchko (Soooo Good!!!!) and are looking for
another one to read. I want to read a Hiding Place, but think Luke (at 9) may
be too young for it. What do you think?

I love the book of Acts and studied with the kids for Bible last year. We
purchased the Visual Bible tapes and watched them after reading the book --
sooo good! They follow NIV text verbatim -- adding nothing and taking away
nothing -- very well done videos!

Just bought this one too! Gonna start it once I finish A Place of Quiet Rest

I have read a few books on prayer (mostly Bible Studies) and have a few to
read -- this one, however, is not in my list! I have all of Stormy's prayer
books (and have read them -- except the newest one listed above) and I have
What Happens When Women Pray by Christendon and Dutch Sheets' Intercessory
Prayer.

> The Contemplative Mom: Restoring Rich Relationship with God in the Midst of
> Motherhood
by Ann Kroeker

Sounds like another good one!

Have it -- just haven't gotten to it yet!

Another one on my want list!

Ohhh I love the sound of this one -- definitely one I am going to look for --
now! I am really getting back into my writing and journaling during my Quiet
Time.

1 Chapter to go -- a great book!

I love My Utmost and Whispers of His Powers -- I have been using them this
year in my Quiet Time (along with other things!) I rarely read the same
devotional every day -- I keep a basket with several in it next to my chair
and read whatever I feel lead to read! I also read books that would not be
necessarily called devotionals -- like Elisabeth Elliott's A Place of Quiet
Rest.

Here are some of the many books I have in my to read stack.....

He Chose the Nails -- Max Lucado

I Kissed Dating Goodbye -- Joshua Harris
Boy Meets Girl -- Joshua Harris
(Both of these I am planning on reading with my 13 yo daughter)

Discipline the Glad Surrender -- Elisabeth Elliot

Fresh Faith - Jim Cymbala

Seasons of a Mother's Heart - Sally Clarkson

Shepherding a Child's Heart -- Tedd Tripp

Intercessory Prayer -- Dutch Sheets

Bad Girls of the Bible & Really Bad Girls of the Bible -- Liz Curtis Higgs

As Silver Refine -- Kay Arthur

If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat -- John
Ortberg

The Gift of the Blessing -- Gary Smalley & John Trent

I also want Lucado's new book "Traveling Light", Beth Moore "To Live is
Christ", "Words that Hurt, Words that Heal" (forget the author) and many,
many others......

Just building up a big ole library here at home and one day I will have time
to read them all!!!
