My mom used to leave out easter baskets, and my sister and I really
enjoyed the tradition (if not the belly aches).
This traditions DO seem to smokescreen the reason for the season, as well
as make a more marketable holiday so peeps, chocalate bunnys are pushed be
the corporate machines that supply Americas tv habit etc. People are
understandably frightened of the image and concept of Christs sacrifice,
and are certainly uncomfortable with presenting it to their kids, so they
buy them grand theft auto instead...
If we want a different Easter than the one presented for our glutinous
culture, then we need to turn off the television and establish our own
traditions. We (Christian or otherwise) cannot expect the culture at large
to act in our best interest, or expect anyone else to shoulder any
responsibility for our children.-Aaron
