Well, with the Magi being astrologers and likely priests of Zoroastrianism will be interesting. Such men will most certainly carry the risk of becoming fascinated with the occult for PC's, much like that in The Sorcerers Apprentice DR adventure. Sin Enchantments could easily just come from rival mystics and the like.
As for threats/encounters:
Poisonous Vermin: Scorpions, biting flies, serpents, perhaps of large size.
Bandits/Desert Tribesmen: Some will be in awe of the magi, others will seek to kill you. All encouters should be unique.
Romans: Rome never defeated the Persians, and was very aware of this. Persians travelling in ROman lands will be noticed. Roman soldiers should be extremely tough opponents, particularly in groups (higher than normal stats and excellent equipment). Also, Persian kingmakers (the Magi) seeking a king will draw attention like nothing else.
Desert Conditions: Heat and sun will kill the unprotected and unprepared.
Sand Storm: These powerful Shamal come like a howling apocalypse in desert lands, and will force PC's into solid shelter like a caravansary (make it ruined for effect) or a cave. Even under cover, dust will get everywhere, make it hardto breath, and get into water (wells will likely be outside in the sand and wind). Horses will need to be blindfolded, or they WILL panic, and even with all of the PC's efforts, horses will die. Also, such places will also attract human and animals seeking shelter (lions, evil men etc).
Just some thoughts.

Subject: [DragonRaid] DragonRaid Christmas Adventure
At this time of the month, for the past several years, an idea pops into my head to write up a Christmas adventure for DragonRaid. Of course, there is little time to actually do it, and the DR setting really doesn’t seem to adapt to the story.
But, if I would just use the game system and place the adventure into the timeframe on earth, it works better. Instead of following the Holy Family on their trek, I thought that the Wise Men would be a better subject.
To make characters, I would have to use the Once Born NPC mechanics posted on my website at http://www.dragonraid.net/web/dr2nded/npcs . I think that using Dark Creatures would strain reality too much, so humans and animals would be the main antagonists.
So, between first seeing the Star to finally leaving Bethlehem for home in the East could be lots of adventure for the Wise Men and their retinue. Thieves, storms, (getting lost probably wouldn’t be a problem) being chased by Herod’s goons, etc.
Anyone care to make this a group project and suggest encounters and hazards?
