RE: RE: Biblical Demonology

Posted by: asiddall <asiddall@...>

Angels can get physical. Though whether or not this is temporary or conditional in some way is unknowable for us. However, they can eat and drink (Gen 18:7 and Gen 19:3) and if they have the plumbing for that, sex isnt that big of a leap. Fallen angels are still angels though evil. The price for such mingling may be the reason for angels that were thrown into deep pits to await judgement (2 Pet: 4). A fate that even Lucifer was not subjected to (yet).

A real difference can be seen between the power and authority between the "greater" fallen angels like the Prince of Persia (Daniel 10:13), Prince of Greece" (Daniel 10:20) and the lesser sorts like Familiar Spirits (Shedim) (1 Sam 28:7-8, Is 19:3, Is 29:4, Lev 20:27, Deut 18:11, 2 Chron 33:6, 2 Kings 21:6). While the "Princes" are slugging it out with Michael and Gabriel, its the weaker Shedim that are encountered as possessors, spirit guides and "ghosts". So while the demons encountered in the New Testament were bodiless, we should not think of them as the big players, just the minions.

Other than the “sons of God” passage, where is the reference dealing with demons having any kind of material body?  They have to have some kind of substance in order to impregnate human women.

> The term “demon” refers to a seemingly endless variety of supernatural entities, presenting a grisly bestiary that nonetheless have certain similarities in character, if not in form and function. In all accounts, demons are regarded as dangerous beings who are hostile to life and morality. Physically (if such a term can be truly applied to spirit-beings), demons vary wildly. From godlike entities of vast power to lowly shadow beings seemingly composed of tangible hate and little else.
