RE: What if...

Posted by: mbgross <mbgross@...>

Dan,

Absolutely.  God could create another race on another planet.  However, we would also probably assume that God deals with them in a different economy than us. I mean, who knows if they have ever sinned and obviously they would not have inherited the sin nature from Adam and Eve.  Therefore God would likely deal differently with them (as he does with angels).  I mean, if we found out there was another "species" of highly intelligent beings, could we tell them that Jesus died for them?  If so, we would be going beyond what scripture teaches.   Christ did not unite himself with their nature (as he did in incarnation for humanity) to die on the cross for their sins.

Therefore, since the allegory is meant to be parallel to what we know and experience of God, I would still think it best to keep it to human PC's.  But again, it is just my opinion.  Obviously we all have freedom to run games as we feel best and to use those methods for the best discipleship possible.

Again, just my musings.

What if we found out next week that there is another "species" of highly intellegent being that God created?  What if that being had a soul, the ability to discern right from wrong, and the ability to think in complex ways - including ways that they would decide to accept by faith, the leading of God?  Would we accept that God could create another race, on another planet that was his own?  Just wondering...

Hello all,

I know I don't weigh in often and I didn't see the email that preceded this
one, but I figured I would weigh in for the fun of it.

I don't use non-human PC's and will probably not in the future.  Although I
like the idea for variety in play, I don't feel it fits well within the
allegory of EdenAgain as it relates to our life.  Only humanity is created
in the image of God and that makes us unique.  I have found this creates a
unique teaching point within itself.  Often students want to be something
other than human both in the game and sometimes in life.  I know students
who wish they were angelic beings and some who even wish they were some sort
of animal.  Talking about why we human PC's are the only option often gets
them to think about the uniqueness of us as human beings who are only saved
by grace through faith.

Take it for what is worth.  Just the mutterings of a youth pastor. Lol. And
thanks for all the work you all put into this discipleship tool.

Greetings.
Having non-human PC's also let's the players deal
with racism.  Will they stand by their elf brother
when the townspeople want to lynch him?  It makes for
great teaching moments.
