I need help. My brother is mad at me because I am considering taking my
child to a doctor to discuss the possibility of diagnosing ADHD and
medication.
He thinks that as a teacher that I just want my child to behave like a
little robot and that I am going to kill him with psychotic drugs.. that
of course is not true!! he is 6 1/2 and repeating K. He is a preemie and
has always been difficult. He is also oppositionally defiant. It is
getting worse. He refuses to do any work at school. When tested on the
alphabet he just says i and o for everything. He cannot focus on the work
at all. AT home he know 13 of the letters. He will not do it at school.
He just wants
to be finished. I don't want him to go through school and not learn just
because he cannot focus. I know he is very smart.
Please let me know your opinions. Dietary intervention just doesn't work
here. I am at the end of my rope . THere are many medications besides
ritilin. I know what a difference they can make in a childs life and in
their education. I do not want to change him, I want to help him.
