Oh man, I wish I was there helping you get rid of stuff! My cousin has made "Let It Go" her theme song for this year. I just spent another five days helping her dejunk her laundry room, a closet, and a storage building near their pool. I also helped her 19-year-old daughter dejunk a bedroom in her apartment. It was an exhausting few days, but we got rid of tons of stuff! Next, I'll be helping my cousin with a large linen closet that's being used for toiletries, medicines and medical stuff, toilet paper, beach towels, etc., more closets and hopefully, the 19-year-old's bedroom. She has moved to her own apartment, but still has tons of stuff at her parents' house.

After helping her, I came home and started going through some areas here. I switched stuff from two cabinets yesterday and will be working on one of my pantries today. It has stuff given to me that I have to admit we will never use. I'm also line drying some quilts and will probably donate a couple of them that are pretty worn and not made by anyone I know. Sunday, I sold a vintage iron bed frame, mattress, box spring, and two sets of sheets from our master bedroom. We have simplified our room with a memory foam mattress and flat frame, no headboard or footboard for now. We upsized to a queen, so sold our sheets with the bed and will now buy bigger ones.

Boys are back to homeschooling, and girls are working at the shop about three days a week. I think they will be babysitting again soon, and have a house and pet-sitting job coming up September 13-24. Dh will be on call Friday through Tuesday morning, so we plan to stay around home this weekend.

I better get back to work!

California

You live in a beautiful place, Marci.  I love how green it is
there.  I look at the picture of the horses every day—it is wallpaper on
my computer.  I can see why you want to stay in the area.  You would
probably be more comfortable in a smaller, better insulated house.  I
pray God will bring you a buyer in His own good timing!

I used to not want to live in
Ohio.  That was when I lived in the busy city.  We moved to Florida
and loved it for a few years, but longed for seasons.  God moved us back
to Ohio, but we never did go back to a city.  I am out in the country and
it is rolling hills.  If I go a bit west of south, it gets really
flat.  There are lots of farms and some of them are even organic.  I
love that we have a very defined 4 seasons.  Last winter was colder than
I like and I actually just heard yesterday that they are calling for an even
colder winter this year.  We are actively working on the house to get it
ready to sell.  I want to stay in the area though.

I really enjoy hearing about the different parts of the US and
Canada.

You all may think that California is a terrible place to live with
drought, fires, earthquakes, and Hollywood.

Well, we LOVE it here in the Sierra foothills.  We have been
threatened with fire, but never burned down.  The firefighters are
fantastic, and the air support for fire suppression is fantastic.

In my whole lifetime I have only felt a few good jolts from an
earthquake, and occasional tremors.  Like John Muir, I find them a bit
exhilarating.  We are far away from Hollywood and near the beautiful
Yosemite.

This evening we sat out on the deck and listened to the breeze in the
trees, the coyotes and the other night sounds.  Not one mosquito.
No chiggers.  No hurricanes.  No tornados.  No floods (in
this part of California anyway!).

Land may be a little bit expensive, but due to the climate we don’t
have big heating bills in the winter, or big A/C bills in the summer.
I haven’t turned on the A/C for two years or more.

It is sometimes a struggle, but we do grow a nice garden, orchard and
vineyard.  We would like to have a normal amount of rain, but our well
has held up really well and we have plenty of water for irrigation.  We
get some beautiful snow in the winter time, but no heavy snow, ice, and
extreme cold.

Every location has its plusses and minuses.   So what do
each of you like, or hate, about your state?
