Please forgive me for chuckling but you brought back a memory for me living
in TN. I was busy baking bread and my son (young then) came in and said
"mom, Rachel and Kim (the neighbor girl) are playing with a little snake".
Rachel was normally afraid of snakes so I didn't think anything of it.
Thought surely it was a gardner snake. Finally after my son insisted that I
take a look, my sticky handed body called to hubby to please investigate.
He tromped out to the girls to see what was going on. He then came to the
kitchen carrying one of those hand spades you garden with. In it was a tiny
snake. I said...well...I guess it was nothing then? He
said....nothing...hmm...playing with a baby copperhead can be deadly! Those
girls were playing with a baby copperhead! I've seen more Copperheads and
Rattlers than I ever care to see in a lifetime. I really don't think you
want to go to TN....they do have alot of snakes.
You may very well want to check out Minnesota. We do have rattler's but
they usually hang out in the areas that are very rocky and hilly. I asked a
DNR guy about them because old timers told me there are no poisonous snakes
in MN. That's when I found out there are about 2 sitings of them a year in
MN but it's usually in the rocky areas. MN dosen't have much in the way of
hills so you probably won't ever see one. I too am leary of snakes and I've
never seen anything to be alarmed about in MN....Deanna
