This is probably and sadly a more common story than anyone can imagine. I
bet upon further exploration everyone has one story to share about medical
mistakes. I want to share one now.
I have a cousin in WI had started a family. They had two daughters. Mom is
aware of consequences of shots and some modern medicine. Upon getting
pregnant with her third child, all was well until she was born. Not much
different than other deliveries, but directly after birth the doctors
decided something wasn't right. Whisking her under 5lb body off and doing
some short tests they called it Edwards syndrome. Although true in
diagnosis, they put the fear and sadness into the hearts of the parents.
They spent the next few hours saying hello and goodbye. Then Martha lived a
few more hours. So they hooked her up to machines. When the doctors
thought enough was enough, they told them to take Martha home and enjoy her
for as long as they could. Basically take her home to die. They told her
that is was no use trying to feed her as she just couldn't suck nor her
body was telling her how to.In the next few days at home they took family
photos. A family portrait. They had a one week birthday for her. All that
time Mama, holding her felt helpless. But during that time you know what
God did? Encouraged her to pump milk and store it. She doesn't know why.
But after a day home without a change she decided that she would feed
Martha. And Martha took it! And she took it again and again. Then the
wonderful thing happened. It was time to change the diaper for the first
time! Who would think this is such a wonderful thing? But it meant all
was working. Now, weeks later Martha is over 6 lbs and eating. She still
has complications that will need medical attention, but she is not on
machinery. Martha has been brightening their lives for months now. Only
He knows for how long. But where doctors have handed little Martha over to
her parents to die, her parents love and prayer have brought that little
girl wide eyed and hungry and growing to this family.
