Hi Lisa,We've been using cloth diapers with Caleb. I use cloth in the daytime and a
disposable at night. I don't have to deal with leaks that way and one
disposable at night is affordable. We've used diapers from www.angelfluff.com. They are about $3.00 each. Get
the heavyweight diapers, the lightweight are good for little babies, but not
absorbent enough for toddlers. My friend makes the diapers and she gave me 3
dozen when he was born. Just the plain rectangle diapers. This summer, I took a disposable diaper and stretched it out on the cloth
diaper and made the cloth diaper fitted, then I added velcro to fasten with.
I really like them much better that way.I use the nylon pants to cover them. They work really good, they wash good
and don't leak. All the covers that I bought are either fussy in the wash
or don't fit right or just don't work well. When using the rectangle diapers, I don't fold them, I just put the rear
under him and give it a twist and pull it up between his legs and pin on.
It makes the diaper fit better and it makes it more absorbent. Its fuller
in the crotch area that way.As for washing, I just put the diaper in the pail and when I'm ready to wash
I put the diapers in the washer with regular soap and set it to wash.
However, I leave the lid open. After it finishes agitating, it won't drain
with the lid open. I let them soak a while like that, drain it, re-fill it
and wash like a normal load of clothes. Every once in a while, I have
soemthing that stains, but after a few washings and wearings, the stains all
wash out. Jeannine said "After all, they're diapers!" Nobody sees the
stain but me and it doesn't happen often.Occassionally, I put a little bleach in the load, but not often. It eats
the cotton. I add borax when I have it. It seems to make them a little
softer. So much for cloth diapers. We're beginning to potty train here! Yea!!!!!!!
He pees in the potty every time I put him on it. And yesterday, he told me
twice that he was wet! We bought some training pants and he really likes
wearing them. He's learning to pull them up and down.Dana
