Re: Life

Posted by: marmali <marmali@...>

Our weekend was very different than we expected with dh working so many hours on Sunday and into Monday morning. The little journey we took Monday to the thrift shop and Home Depot wasn't really in the plans but we were glad we did it.

Dustin finally got here around 1 to do his laundry yesterday. It took forever for him to get paperwork done at the detention center. They told him he needed to bring additional paperwork today including a resume so I spent much of the afternoon helping him create one even though my "plans" were to do several jobs in the house. While outside, I noticed a tire in his car that was in shreds. He can't make a 45 minute drive to work each day with no spare so I told him to leave the tire and wheel and we'd get it fixed by a guy we know. Dustin was due to meet someone and had to leave so I finished getting his clothes dried and on hangers. As soon as dh got home, we ran the tire to the guy and in a few minutes and for just $20 we had Dustin a good spare. Some friends a half hour from here just got home from Hawaii and called late afternoon wanting our girls to come over. I wasn't going to agree, had too much to do here, but since we HAD to go to the town where the friends live to take Dustin his tire we decided to go to their house as well. So, on the spur of the moment I told the kids to get ready so we could go. We decided to quickly grill burgers for supper and as they were cooking, dh got called to go to work. Thankfully, the problem was just a few miles down the road so he got it fixed quickly and got back home to go with us.

After leaving the friends' house, we met Dustin at Walmart to find the stuff he had to have to start his job today. He wasn't expecting any of this so we loaned him the money to get some boots, a belt, and some thick socks since he'll be on his feet the whole time he's working. He was to report at 8 a.m. today but doesn't know what is scheduled beyond today. I hope this turns out to be a good job for him.

I am a big fan of to-do lists, of getting things accomplished and being productive but some times you just have to pitch all that and meet needs or spend time with people just visiting like we did with our friends. Sure, dh and I could have stayed home last night, and I could have painted the table and chair that are prepped and sitting in the middle of the livingroom but laughing and visiting with our friends was great. Helping Dustin pick out a "professional" belt and the other things he needed was a good thing to do. He thanked me several times yesterday, and I know he IS grateful.

Just like my friend that asked me to help her declutter........she has commented for years that I should come help her but I've always been SO busy. Now, I am going to her house Monday morning and my stuff that needs doing can just wait another day!
Never making it to visit Dana even though she asked me repeatedly has really made me look at things differently. Yes, I'll keep dejunking and decluttering not because I like to do it or to stay busy but because I want FREEDOM to invest time in relationships and people, in meeting needs and in serving the Lord however He directs. Right now, the thought of being weighed down with a bunch of stuff to tend, manage, and clean and is like being in chains. No thanks 🙂 Lisa in NM
