Get the log home magazine...use that to do a bit more research. There is also an option of timber frame home where part is timber beams/posts and the rest is whatever you want in the middle. I even read a interesting thing about straw bales in the middle of the timber frames. It might be a good route to go. I too want a log home, but may have to end up building my own. There is also log home siding that you can use to put on a regular home to make it look like a log home. If I couldnt afford a log home, I would get an old barn, rebuild or renovate it into a home.Vaughnde Edwards

Subject: [HomeSteadHeaven] log homeDear Friends,
Well, it looks like my dream of building a log home is going to be just a
dream. I had researched so much. It looked like it would really happen.
We went to the manufacturer last night and it turns out it is a LOT more
expensive than they tell you on the website. The website says the log
package I wanted was 39,000 and to expect to pay about that much again to
get someone to build it and finish it. That sounded reasonable to us.
Well.....
IT turns out the house I wanted is 1900 sq. feet and it will cost $90 a
square foot to finish. I am sorry but that Is $190,000 .. That is
ridiculous! Well, We are back to square one. Anybody have any
suggestions? Thanks for listening! Lisa Moreno
