SunflowerHi Marci~ Even though I don't have a 17 year old yet, I feel like I'm in the same boat. I have a never-ending hungry just turned 11 year old boy. And he and my daughter (8) are on a competitive swim team. They work out about 10 hours a week. They seem to be always hungry. I, too, am a stickler for healthy foods. Here are some of my suggestions. I make vegetarian pizza with no tomato sauce. I add brocolli, carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, etc. and sprinkle just a little of mozarella cheese on top to hold it together. It takes little time. I make cottage cheese fruit salad. Chop up apples, orange slices, grapes, etc. and add raisins. They eat yogurt with grape nuts. I make lots of soups. They love Chinese chicken salad. For a snack before swim, they eat rice wrapped in Kim or Nori (Japanese word - both meaning dried seaweed). What else? Oh they eat lots of raw vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, etc. and dip in fat free ranch dressing. But I agree with you. They seem to be always hungry and always eating. They carry around bottled water with them too (even to their rooms when they are working or to the living room when they are practicing their violin). I can't figure out if this helps them stay a bit fuller or if it cleans their systems out to make them think that they are hungry again. LOL My son has been going through a growth spurt since he was born. My daughter is waiting for one...
Hope this helps. I'm looking forward to what others write too. Oh BTW, I bought a flat of strawberries and they were gone in two days.
love,
Robin
