Hi ladies,
Well, our day STARTED out quietly, but it didn't last long. All week, I
have been getting up and reading my Bible and doing As Unto the Lord, a
Bible study from Doorposts on submission. This makes my day so much better
than starting off on the computer. Anyway, I did that, got things going
around the house, did school work early with the girls and was inside
working on something when my 6-year-old Makenzie ran in and told me there
was a snake! I didn't believe her, she was saying it was green and that it
was in the backyard. I knew we wouldn't have a green snake, and really
didn't think we would see another one so soon after the rattler scare.
Anyway, I finally went to the backyard to see for myself, and sure enough,
there was a snake about 2 - 2 1/2 feet long. I couldn't tell by the pattern
if it was a rattler or not and younger ones don't always have rattles, so
called my teen son out so he could decapitate it. After the snake was dead,
I looked it up in our nature book and think that it was probably a bull
snake, harmless and helpful for eating rodents. We had to take action if it
was a rattler as it was quickly moving out of the yard to the pasture, so we
didn't have time to determine for sure what it was. Even though it wouldn't
have hurt my kids, Makenzie was pretty freaked. She had Jacob with her when
she saw it and she told him to run. He got upset after a bit and started
crying....much like I wanted to do just from the emotional trauma of hearing
the word snake I think! The kids were walking along the sidewalk in our
backyard heading toward the swingset when they spotted the snake
today...they weren't out in a pasture or in a "dangerous" location. I just
don't know how many more occurrences of this I can take before I have to go
on tranquilizers 🙂
Afterwards, the kids didn't want to be outside even though it's a beautiful
day here.
It'll be quiet once a couple or more little ones go down for a nap, but up
until this point, we've had lots of excitement.Hope your day is snake-free!
