Welcome MaryLynn!!! I am sure you will find out many good things on this
list. Everyone here is so kind. I too have never had a problem with my
goats escaping. I have 13 goats and never have had one get loose. We have
Nubians, Saanens, Nigerian Dwarfs, Pygmies, and Alpines. I had read once
that one of the main reasons goats jump is because they have been
conditioned too...for example if you only put small sides in the kid pen
when they are small they soon learn to jump out and so then people will put
it a little higher and soon the babies will be jumping out of that...so then
when they are older and in a 4' high pen they already know then that if they
jump over they will be free. I hope that makes sense. So the best thing to
do is to start them in a 4' high pen so the idea never crosses their mind.
My big Nubian could easily jump out of the 4 foot high fence here and he has
never shown an interest. (well, to be honest, he is probably too chubby now
to jump out if he wanted too!! 🙂 Anyways I do hope that helps some. I do
know what you mean, goats are so wonderful. They are so gentle and fun. By
the way, I live in on the north shore of Lake Superior in MN. My hubby and I
have 2 children ( I get so envious when I hear of people who have 6
children!!), and we have 3 cats, 3 dogs, 13 goats, 5 sheep, 2 llamas, 2
guineas, 19 chickens, a pony, and lots of parrots. I do hope you can get
some goats again in the future. You must miss them lots. Take care, and
blessings, Julie
