Oh Pat, we could be best friends, I believe...LOL I am like you. Eat all
types of ethnic foods. In fact, last week my son (11) asked me if he could
take all of us out to eat at a new Filipino restaurant near our church.
Their Godfather is Filipino but lives in Manilla and hasn't been in the
states for a few years. So we haven't eaten any real Filipino food in a long
time. There we were, going down the line, choosing foods that we had not
seen before. We could all pick three dishes so we all chose 3 different
dishes. Then we sampled all of it together. We were the only non-Filipino
people there. It wasn't until the end that we realized that all eyes watched
us the whole time. As we finished and stood up to gather our things, many
Filipinos clapped and nodded at us for having braved their world. We did
like everything except two dishes that were kind of mustard -brown in color.

I, too, love Korean products. I have a baby blanket of Cody's from Korea.
It is beautiful cotton with one side silk. You lay a baby in it and then
there are little buttons with fasteners that end up similar to wrapping a
baby as we do tightly in a receiving blanket. I have it saved for Cody to
give to him for his first born. I especially LOVE Korean socks. Sounds
silly but their cotton is just so soft and durable. I buy socks for the kids
and even myself at our Korean market near our home. I buy the cutest ones
for my 3 1/2 year old. They always have some sweet or fun detail to them. I
even buy them for gifts for my friends when I am going to visit them. I mean
the friends that have children and people I don't see often because of
distance. People expect me to bring some delight from the Korean market when
I visit them. LOL And I don't let them down. I also love their clips and
hair bands. They are quite beautiful and very inexpensive at the market. I
have seen the same or similar things at the mall and even at Nordstroms for 3
and 4 times the amount. I even love Korean dish towels that they use to wipe
off their counters and table. They are soooo absorbent.

Lately we like to eat Pho, Vietnamese noodle soup. My husband and I were
first introduced to it in Seattle with some Vietnamese friends. Now it is
the rave here and so there is a great Pho noodle shop within walking distance
of our house. In fact it is next door to the Korean market.

And finally, our latest discovery and real treat is Boba drink. My
understanding is that it is Taiwanese. It is a drink of many different
flavors turned into a slush of sorts with soybean balls in the bottom.
Yummy, really.

Well if you were here, I would give you my kimchee. I can't bare to throw it
out. I guess tomorrow morning I'll give my MIL a call and ask her if I can
give it back. She'll understand, but no kimchee for 10 days is a long
time... 🙂
