Subject: [HomeSteadHeaven] some thoughtsThis morning the air smells like fall. Smell is hard to describe but its something
very improtant to us. It envokes memories, and associations.
The window in my computer room is open, and the smoke from the wood stove
seems to find its way through it. The smell is good. It reminds me of a certain
day in Oregon when the air was cool, the trees were fragrant, the children playing,
the fruit trees heavy with fruit and I was picking apples. That day the woodstove
smoke hung heavy and low to the roof, dancing like some light footed creature.
The smell of the smoke mingled with our clothes and our hair. It was just a day
that was good. Nothing profound, just good.
Forgetting that it is now cooler, I ran outside to feed the chickens with bare feet.
The cool damp grass startled me and I decided to run back inside and stick on
some shoes. I found only mud boots handy so I slipped them on and they
were my husbands and not mine. My feet felt small and made me feel like a
small child playing dress up. This made more memories come to mind.
Seeing in my mind, our little girls flittering around the house in my shoes, in
my dresses and feeling so grown up. Now they are grown up.
The oatmeal is cooking on the stove, eggs are waiting to be served, home made
bread turned into nice golden toast sits on the plates. It just feels all right this
morning. The smells, the sounds of birds and chatter of children, the air is
crisp, and most of all, you can feel the love and contentment.
I guess today is just a perfect homestead day.
Thank you Lord for the senses you gave us and the hearts to hold them.Pat
