RE: SueDawn and snakes, interracial families

Posted by: lthornburg <lthornburg@...>

I find the story of SueDawn absolutely pathetic on behalf of those people!
I just cannot imagine why people think the way they do, honestly.

Our small town has always been a mix of different ethnic backgrounds. A
number of years ago we had a Korean family buy a local mini-supermaket type
place. There were a few "rednecks" that decided they didn't want Korean's
around here. They tried to bully them out of town. It backfired. The
small towns around here rallied around the family. They had one of the best
businesses around because of it. I heard that some of the people that were
so nasty had been taken down a peg or two and had even been threatened with
eviction if they weren't nice. In fact, the father ended up being one of
the town council members for many years. We were really sorry to see them
leave last year. They went to live by his family so they could take care of
his ailing parents and their oldest child was going to go to college in the
same area. This really made me glad of the town we live in.

We have often thought of adopting a little Korean or Chinese girl. However,
we have not the money for such a thing right now. We just lay it on the
Lord and pray that someday we will be in a position to do so. We have all
boys and both my husband and I have always longed for a little girl of our
own.

One cute little story I heard from my pastor and his wife. They have 5
children. The last child is adopted..an African American little girl (she
is adorable I have to say, a very nice young lady). When they adopted her
the social worker in California that they worked with showed them several
pictures of children. They felt led to choose this little girl. The social
worker asked how the other children might react to a bi-racial family
member. My pastor's wife replied:"So far it hasn't been a problem but at
times they can get on each other's nerves in our small home right now." The
sort of whole joke was that she is Irish and he is Mexican American. LOL...
The social worker showed up a few days later with the little girl already to
go.

As for snakes, we have rattlers here but they usually stick to the woods.
>From time to time we have found one around here. It is rare though.
Neighbors a few blocks from us killed a baby rattler two weeks ago. Keep in
mind we live on the bluff, above the Columbia river. This is a cliff with
all kinds of caves and rocks. I have only heard of one hiker being bit in
the past 10 years.

Blessings,

Lori
