I'm in Missoula, Montana as you can see below...I'm a single parent, hearing impaired and a sahm (for now while Naomi continues her schooling as she is only 10). I look forward to the day when I can afford even 3-5 acres of land to homestead. I think land up here in missoula is scarce, however they are always advertising land around the Hamilton and Florence which is a much smaller town and doesn't really have any jobs ...most commute to missoula to work. I attend the Church of the Nazarene...but would love to also attend a local mennonite church..unfortunatly the closest one I've found is in kalispel...3 hours away! maybe someday. Until then, I've got my Lord, my church family and my friends on this list.
There is a flagship program at the school and one of the things on there was community garden...Naomi signed up for that one...so I think we are gonna be busy with that. We are indeed planning on having one next spring since we are not planning on being out of town next summer...so, hopefully next year we will have a small garden plot where we can grow things and I'm also hoping that I will be allowed to have planter boxes placed around the apartment building.

Hi ladies,
Thanks so much for the warm and loving welcome. You all sound wonderful. My
first question for all of you is "Where do you live?" You can list just
states if you'd like, but I almost never meet anyone from NM on any lists so
I'm always curious where people live. Also, since we are considering a move,
I like to know what parts of the country are affordable and good for
"farming" 🙂

I had already "met" Marci on the used book lists where I've been posting and
selling. I have always desired to live in Amish country, so Marci kindly
sent me a real estate magazine from her area. THAT ruined me! I wanted to
move there the next day 🙂 Prices in our area are very high and getting
higher as this area is a vacation and retirement destination for people from
West Texas and all over. It's incredible how much our area has grown.
Unfortunately, most of the people that have moved in are wealthy and like to
spend money. Dh and I are learning to spend less and do with less which is
in total contradiction to most lifestyles around here. Also, in the larger
town about twenty miles from us, the racetrack has now added casino gambling
and the Apache Indian Reservation (45 minutes from us) has added full casino
gambling as well. Totally changes the "atmosphere" of a place. It's a hard
location to homestead in because prices are inflated, there aren't many
supportive services or businesses except for those involved in ranching, and
the weather is not the best for growing things. This year, we had a freeze
the end of May and weren't able to harvest any cherries or apples from our
trees....a major disappointment to the children and me.

So, we are seeking the Lord as to whether He would have us move. Dh is
employed as a journeyman lineman with the power company, has been for years,
but doesn't think he wants to keep working for them for the next twenty
years. Again, we are seeking God in this area, learning to live differently
than is the American norm and learning skills so we are able to live on
less. Johanna, I hope to answer your question about educational philosophy
later. I haven't been asked any "deep" questions like that in a very long
time 🙂
