Jacqui,Any cookstove can heat but many of them are not designed to have a long burn
time. The only 3 I'm aware of that have longer than a 7 hour burn time are
the Pioneer Maid and the Kitchen Queen. If I lived where you lived I'd go
for the Kitchen Queen. I know the Amish are not to have status symbols but
they do. A Kitchen Queen is one of them. I can't tell you how many Pioneer
Maid owners I knew that liked their Pioneer Maids but dreamed of owning a
Kitchen Queen. A Kitchen Queen is just a little bit more expensive. The
biggest factor for most of my friends in Indian and TN was the shipping. It
cost so much to ship it down or they'd have to wait so long for the truck to
make it's yearly run to deliver. The Kitchen Queen is made in Michigan and
though most people don't know they sell refurbished stoves for about 2/3rds
the price of a new one....you can call and ask them if they have one.
Another stove that is very nice looking and may be easier for you to get is
the Margin woodstove. They have several models...including a glass door on
the fire box so that you can see if the wood is burning down. Depending on
the direction you need to face the stove it can also serve as a type of
fireplace if you face the glass door out. This is an excellent stove.
Looks like the old fashioned cookstoves but has modern technology. They are
made in Drayton, Ontario. I'm not sure where that is compared to you but
you might be close enough to drive and pick one up? The Pioneer Maid is also
made in Canada and is an excellent stove. Given where you live in the
frozen country I think any of the three stoves would work for you. If you
need contacts let me know...Deanna
