Wednesdays Words

LAUGH

Ecclesiastes 3:4  “A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance.”    (NLT)

Laugh =  sachaq (saw-khak') or gelao (ghel-ah'-o);; to laugh (in pleasure or detraction or as a sign of joy or satisfaction); by implication, to play:

Luke 6:21 “God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for the time will come when you will laugh with joy.”  (NLT)

Does it seem that we usually take ourselves way too seriously?  That there is not enough pure joy and laughter in our lives?  Yes, I know that church is serious business and we are to be determined and striving for the prize; but would you want to be part of any group that had no humor or laughter?

One of the most pleasurable sounds I have ever heard was a group of young children laughing.  They played and talked and laughed.  There is life in laughter.

Laughter also reduces stress.  I have often heard (and used) phrases like “it’s OK, just laugh it off” or (well, might as well laugh – it’s either that or cry”.  The truth is that laughter does reduce our stress levels and help us deal with troubles times.

Laughter is good medicine.  When we laugh we feel better.  Research shows that there is an improvement in our immune system and a quicker recovery time when we laugh.

Laughter helps all relationships.  Our marriages, friendships and families would be much better if we learned to laugh more and fuss less.

I know that God knows this, He designed it.  I believe that He wants us to laugh and enjoy the life He prepared for us.

We must learn to laugh at ourselves more.  We all make mistakes and cause problems for ourselves and others.  Laughter can break the tension and allow healing to begin.

There are many things in this world that will try to steal your joy and happiness while silencing your laughter.  Things like sin, anger, pettiness, gossip, vanity, wealth, power, jealousy, gluttonous, drunkenness, fear, depression, pride, stupidity, and 2 or 3 hundred other things. Don’t let them!

Focus on God and His kingdom purpose for your life.  Remember that His love for you was settled for all eternity on an old wooden cross and His love is eternal.  Your peace, joy and happiness do not come from this soiled world; true happiness comes from God.  Peace, Love and Joy are a person – Jesus Christ.

I want to encourage you to laugh more and worry less.  Find a good joke book or a book of humorous stories, spend time with people who laugh often and look for things to add to your life that bring you happiness.

Laugh, giggle and snicker daily.  Have some private jokes with your spouse and some “you just had to be there” laughs with your friends.

Life is hard, God uses laughter to make it easier to deal with.

SO LAUGH ALREADY!

Job 8:20-21 “But look! God will not reject a person of integrity, nor will he make evildoers prosper.  He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.”  (NLT)

Psalm 126:2  “We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, "What amazing things the LORD has done for them."  (NLT)
