All I can say is to dump Open Transport PPP and replace it with FreePPP. I
have no problem with open transport, but it's PPP control panel sux. Over
three years, FreePPP has never done me dirty.
I can also say that you might want to try logging on to your ISP with ZTerm
or blacknight to check out what the connection screen looks like. When mine
changed ogon: to logon: and word: to password: I couldn't get connected for
a while.
