Fear No Evil?
A Reflection on the Word in Light of September 11, 2001

Evil hit our land today
Like none we've ever known
Crumpled steel and broken lives
On our TV sets are shown.

The terrorists of foreign lands
Have landed on our shores.
They hijacked our own airplanes -
What horror was in store.

Two planes were forced to fly into
New York's Trade Center towers,
And now the rubble left behind
Is graced with tears and flowers.

A third plane was direct
Into the Pentagon
And pierced our national security
As with horror we looked on.

A fourth plane was diverted
From its intended course
By passengers who gave their lives
To overcome by force.

We fly our flag with national pride
And try to calm our doubting,
Yet there in Palestine we see
The people dancing, shouting.

How can we fear no evil, Lord,
When evil is so fearful?
How can we see beyond this thing
When our eyes are so tearful?

You've called us as Your children
To come and walk with You;
Now we understand that there's
No wiser thing to do.

For next to You, there's safety
And next to You, there's joy
Next to You, there's peace of mind
For every girl and boy.

We know not what tomorrow brings
Or if we'll even see it,
But those who claim to trust Your Word
Need only to believe it.

For You are greater, Lord, by far
Than any earthly kingdom!
You hold more power in Your hand
Than Satan's ever dreamed of!

The evil of this world can't shake
The ones who truly know You.
For by Your power we will stand -
To others we will show You.

Please be our Prince of Peace, dear Lord,
In this uncertain hour,
And calm our troubled, aching hearts
With Your almighty power.
