Sandy/primer for floors

Posted by: dhaley <dhaley@...>

Sandy I think a primer would work but here's why I wouldn't use a primer on
plywood.

1) it's a very wet sloppy solution and when I used floor primer to lay some
lineoleum it actually lifted the surface of my plywood in some areas. As a
matter of fact I'm going to have to replace two of the tiles for this
reason.

2) if you use something like oil based Kilz the fumes put me in the
hospital. I get very sick. For those of you that may get sick off of Kilz,
I would suggest Zinnser. It's about $2 more per can than Kilz at Home Depot
and my chemical sensitive friends do not react to it. It dosen't make me
sick and it cleans up nicely.

3) Painted floors will chip. It's just part of having people walk on them,
drop things on them, etc. Since primer is white I'd be afraid the primer
would show through. If you have two layers of floor paint and it chips you
just have the same color (though possibly weaker in color because it soaks
into the wood) showing through.

Y'all probably think I'm lazy but hey...I don't want to have to paint chips
before it's absolutely necessary. In areas where the floor does get that
rubbed look I kind of like the faded wood poking through. I painted two
years ago and have yet to paint chips on the floor upstairs. Deanna
