Scanner Problem

Any suggestions as to how to scan a pearl. I am attempting to scan a
pearl that I purchased today for a graduation gift on a gold chain. I
want to use it to illustrate the pearl of great price eventually on my
web site as well as to share my testimony with the person I am giving it to.
Any suggestions to help me get started would be appreciated. I am having
trouble getting it lined up and finding a suitable background to use.
