Serena

Posted by: smlanza <smlanza@...>

Hi Serena,

I'm pure bred Italian. In fact my parents were born and raised in Northern
Italy and came over here in 1956 on the Andrea Doria (on it's return
voyage, it went down!). I was named after the wife of one of my parents
closest friends. Actually, my real name is Maria Serena Lanza, the Maria
part being tradition. They never had any intention of calling me Maria. My
name is pronounced Sirraina with the accent on the "rain" part making it
sound like "A". It sounds more like the Italian version where the "r" is
rolled. Does that make sense???

I have at least 3 children that I know of that have been named Serena, not
because they have any kind of love for me but they liked the name. I too
was bullied as a child for my name, being a child of the 60's and 70's when
TV shows like Bewitched (her cousin is named Serena) and Sabrina the
Teenaged Witch...I'm sure you get the drift. I also have a difficult time
getting people to pronounce it correctly.

If my parents thought they were naming a serene child, they couldn't have
been more wrong!!!

God Bless,

>^..^<

LOL, Serena. I am such a mixture of Scotch, Irish, English and who know
what else.
I was named after my Great-grand mother, have no idea where her name
came from.
As a child I was a little bit embarrassed by my name because no one had
heard of it. Now, that I am much older I have grown to love my name.
I have only known two of three other Serenas in my life but now have a
two year old granddaughter named Sarah Serena.

What nationally are you and do you know where your name came from? Do
you pronounce your name Serene-na? I have been told that this is a
Spanish name, but I really don't know for sure.
I have been lurking here for months and love this group, but don't post.
I am a Grannie and don't have any amimals, just grandkids. 🙂
