CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH

THE BOOK OF JUDE

JUDE 3--THE COMMON SALVATION

INTRODUCTION

Jude had planned to write the believers, but he had never planned to write this particular letter.

He had planned to write about the great subject of salvation. But he was not able to.

He refers to it as "the common salvation." That is, the salvation that is shared by all believers.

"THE COMMON (SHARED) SALVATION" JUDE REFERS TO INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING COMMON ITEMS:

I. THERE IS ONE COMMON SALVATION FOR EVERYONE. (GAL 3:28)

If you are going to be saved at all you must be saved the same way others are saved.

1. Despite One's Race or Skin Color.

2. Despite One's Nationality. (Jew or Gentile)

3. Despite One's Tongue or Language.

4. Despite One's Economic Standing (Rich or Poor).

5. Despite One's Social Standing (Bond or Free).

6. Despite One's Sex or Gender (Male or Female).

7. Despite Any Other Differences That Men May Be Prejudiced About.

ISAIAH 45:22--Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

II. THERE IS ONE COMMON SAVIOUR. (GAL 3:26; ACTS 4:12; JOHN 14:6)

Acts 4:12--Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 14:6--Jesus said, No man cometh unto the Father but by Me.

bigot--literally means a man with a mustache. Hence, a man of spirit or an obstinate person. defined as a narrow minded person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc.

III. THERE ARE COMMON ELEMENTS TO OUR SALVATION.

A. WE WERE ALL SINNERS. (ROMANS 3:9-12, 23)

B. WE WERE ALL UNDER A SENTENCE OF DEATH. (ROMANS 5:12)

Romans 5:12--Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

C. WE ALL HAD OUR SIN AND RESULTING DEATH SENTENCE LAID UPON CHRIST. (ISAIAH 53:6; 2 COR 5:14-15)

Isaiah 53:6-- "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."

D. WE ALL OBTAINED OUR SALVATION THROUGH REPENTANCE FROM SIN AND FAITH IN CHRIST'S FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS. (ROMANS 10:9-10; GALATIANS 3:26)

E. WE HAVE ALL BEEN PLACED INTO ONE BODY--THE BODY OF CHRIST. (EPHESIANS 4:4; 1 CORINTHIANS 12:13)

The fellowship of believers--the Church.

1 Cor 12:13--For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

F. WE HAVE ALL BEEN MADE TO DRINK INTO ONE SPIRIT.

(EPHESIANS 4:4; 1 CORINTHIANS 12:13)

The Holy Spirit who activates the fellowship.

G. WE ALL HAVE ONE HOPE OF OUR CALLING. (EPH 4:4; TITUS 2:13)

The glorious future to which we have been called.

Titus 2:13--Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

H. WE ALL HAVE ONE LORD. (EPHESIANS 4:5; PHILIPPIANS 2:10)

Christ Jesus who is the King of kings and Lord of lords to whom we all belong.

I. WE ALL HAVE ONE FAITH. (EPHESIANS 4:5)

Jude calls it "The Faith." Our singular commitment to Christ.

J. WE ALL HAVE ONE BAPTISM. (EPHESIANS 4:5)

Immersion--The outward expression of the inward experience.

K. WE ALL HAVE ONE GOD AND FATHER OF US ALL. (EPHESIANS 4:6) God who is our Father keeps us for eternity.

L. WE ALL HAVE BEEN GIFTED BY GOD. (EPH 4:7; 1 COR 12:18)

CONCLUSION

No doubt there are other items we share in Christ.

We who are saved have a "Common (Shared) Salvation" which is uncommon in this world.
