Numbers 14:24

SOMEBODY SPECIAL

But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

Okay, admit it! You'd like to be known as "somebody special". Surely you should be "somebody special" in the eyes of your wife or husband, son or daughter, mom or dad.

You might want to be considered "somebody special" because of the quality of work you do on the job or as a student. Although it is nice to be considered "special" by someone else, people do not always make you feel special when they should. However, if you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are special in God's eyes. See Ephesians 1:3-7.

As Christians, we can also continue to distinguish ourselves as "somebody special" through our Godly behavior. Caleb, who stood for God during a very trying time in Israel's history, distinguished himself as "somebody special". The story of the stand which he took along with Joshua is found in Numbers 13:26-33 and Numbers 14:1-10.

In Numbers 14:24 God shows us what made Caleb so special.

HE WAS A SERVANT - But my servant Caleb,

He put God's plans ahead of his own. God owned him. Galatians 2:20, Luke 9:23-24, Romans 1:1

HE HAD ANOTHER SPIRIT - because he had another spirit with him,

I personally feel that the Spirit he had with him was the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is with each Christian (1 Corinthians 12:13, Romans 8:9) and wants to fill or control each Christian (Ephesians 5:18).

HE HAD A STRATEGY - and hath followed me fully,

All Caleb did was follow God's directions. He was obedient. What better strategy for life than to obey God? 1 Samuel 15:22-23, John 4:34, 8:31

HE HAD SUCCESS - him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

Caleb received what he was promised (Joshua 14:6-15).

As we imitate Caleb, we will be successful in the eyes of God, and rewarded. Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Timothy 4:7-8, James 1:12, 1 Peter 5:4, Daniel 12:3

Psalm 36

CONTRASTS

THE WICKEDNESS OF MAN - Vss. 1-4

THE WONDERS OF GOD - Vss. 5-9

THE WISH OF BELIEVERS - Vss. 10-12

  1. For God's continued loving kindness - Vs. 10
  2. For God's protection from the wicked - Vs. 11

Hosea 3:14-23

GREAT DAY COMING!

There is a great day coming when Israel will be restored to God under the rule of the Messiah, The Lord Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 11). On that great day we will see:

ISRAEL BEFRIENDED BY GOD Vss. 14-18

ISRAEL BETROTHED TO GOD Vss. 19-22

ISRAEL BELONGING TO GOD Vs. 23

Luke 5:33-39

OH NO! SOMETHING NEW!

The strictly conservative Pharisees of Jesus' day were much like us in that they did not like change. Sometimes something new poses a real threat to us.

INQUIRY - Vs. 33 - The Pharisees wanted to know why Jesus' disciples did not fast like they and John the Baptist's disciples did. They were doing something new.

INSIGHT - Vss. 34-35 - Jesus explained that just as a wedding was not a time for fasting, neither was it appropriate to fast while Jesus (who is the Son of God) was in their presence.

ILLUSTRATIONS - Vss. 36-38 - New cloth sewn on an old garment will rip the old garment. New wine placed in old wineskins will burst the wineskins. To place the Gospel of grace into a system of law does not work!

INDICTMENT - Vs. 39 - Most people do not like change. They will say, "The old is better!" before they have tried the new. Christianity is a radical change from Judaism, and the Pharisees deeded the old way better.

John 15:17-27

OPPOSITION

There is persecution of Christians taking place throughout the world.

Give examples that you know of.

When Jesus gave his "Upper Room" discourse He warned us that there would be

opposition to Him and to His followers. In John 15:17-27 we find:

THE LORD'S WILL - Vs. 17

Our Lord made this statement just a few verses before in Vs. 12.

He repeats the statement just before talking about persecution. I think the

Lord was indicating that one of the ways to get through persecution that will come from the world is through the love of the brethren!

Let's face it, hassles from the rest of the world are easier to take when

there's love at home. And hassles from the world are harder to take, when

there is no love at home!

We all need a place of peace.

We all need a place of refuge.

We all need a place where we feel loved.

The church should be such a place! The church should be the Christians

second home!

THE LORD'S WARNING - Vss. 18-21

I don't think that the Lord was indicating that the world may hate you and

it may not. The Lord was talking as if the world was going to hate us. Paul

said in

2 Timothy 3:12 - "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall

suffer persecution."

THE LORD'S WITNESS - Vss. 22-25

The Jews would not have been guilty of the sin of rejecting Jesus if He had

not come to them, spoken to them and worked his miracles in front of them.

His witness made them guilty of rejecting Him.

THE LORD'S WORK - Vss. 26-27

In spite of persecution, the Lord is at work today through the conviction of

the Holy Spirit and the witness of His followers.

Philippians 4:10-19

PERSONAL TESTIMONY

The Philippians were very involved in supporting Paul in his missionary endeavors. Here is Paul's personal testimony concerning the gifts which the Philippians had sent.

SCHOOL OF FAITH Vss. 10-12

Paul had learned both how to abound and to suffer need.

He learned to trust God in the good times and the bad times.

STRENGTH FROM CHRIST Vs. 13

Whatever God wants us to face, we have the strength we need in Christ. Ephesians 3:16, Colossians 1:11

SACRIFICE TO GOD Vss. 14-18

Notice that gifts which the Philippians sent were "...a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God."

SUPPLY FOR NEEDS Vs. 19

Don't take this verse out of context!

The Philippians' gift to the Lord's work was sacrificial, and God met their needs. Giving should be done in the right way and with the right attitude in order to expect God's blessing. 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

Hebrews 12:1-3

REVIVAL - HEBREWS STYLE

There are several verses that talk about revival. Habakkuk,3:2, Psalm 85:6, Psalm 138:7, Isaiah 57:15, 2 Chronicles 7:14

Hebrews 12:1-3 shows us how to have revival.

YOU ARE SHOWN - Vs. 1

There is a cloud of witnesses mentioned in Hebrews 11 that shows us how to live the life of faith.

BE SURRENDERED - Vs. 1

We are to lay aside the weights and sin that easily besets us.

BE STEADY - Vs. 1

We are to run with patience the race that is set before us.

BE SUPPLIED - Vs. 2

Look to Jesus for the strength to endure.

BE SCHOOLED - Vs. 3

For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
