REVELATION 22:6-21
THE Back of the Book #20 THIS CONCLUDES THE SERIES!
Heaven is more than a destination; it is a motivation. Knowing that we shall dwell in the heavenly city ought to make a difference in our lives here and now. The vision of the heavenly city motivated the patriarchs as they walked with God and served Him (Heb. 11:10, 13-16). Knowing that He was returning to the Father in heaven also encouraged Jesus Christ as He faced the cross (Heb. 12:2). The assurance of heaven must not lull us into complacency or carelessness, but spur us to fulfill our spiritual duties. Warren Wiersbe, The Bible Exposition Commentary, Volume 2 (NT), (Wheaton, IL, Victor Books, 1989), p. 624
· What have you learned from this study of Revelation that you never knew before?
· Has this study of Revelation impacted your life in any way?
After giving us a detailed description of end time events, John is concluding his book. In these last verses there are challenges for us to seriously consider.
WORTH Vs. 6
· Some of Johns readers may have been flabbergasted and a little confused at the phenomenal message from the pen of John. There are those today with similar responses as they read or study the Book of Revelation.
· John is assured by an angel that the message he received is faithful and true. Gods Word can be trusted and is reliable. John is also claiming that his writings are inspired by God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21
· Notice that these things must shortly be done. At any moment these prophecies could begin to be fulfilled. No wonder we are told to watch and pray! 1 Peter 4:7
WANTED! Vss. 7-9
1. FAITHFUL SERVANTS Vs. 7
· In light of Jesus soon return the faithful Christian is to heed or guard the words of this book. He is to believe them, know them, and obey them.
· God inspired Revelation for one purpose: to reveal the glory of His Son and call believers to live godly, obedient lives in light of His soon return. The purpose of Revelation is not to provide entertainment, but to provide motivation for Godly living. John MacArthur, The MacArthur New Testament Commentary, Revelation 12-2, (Chicago, Moody Press, 1999), p. 295
2. FAULTLESS WORSHIP Vss. 8-9
· We can understand why John was overwhelmed. He was right in falling down to worship. His problem was that he tried to worship an angel.
· The angel corrected him. He was a fellow servant, of the prophets, and those who keep the sayings in Gods Word. These are all good things, but not worthy of worship.
· Christians must be careful that they never start worshiping the messenger instead of God. This has happened all too often.
· The words, Worship God are a succinct reminder to keep our priorities straight.
WARNINGS Vss. 10-15, 18-19
1. THE TIME IS AT HAND Vss. 10-11
· Vs. 10 Daniel was told to seal up his book (Daniel 12:4). John was told not to.
· The time was at hand, therefore people needed to be instructed and warned about the impending judgments.
· Vs. 11 If after hearing the prophecies of Revelation a person remains unmoved and unrighteous, he probably has a hardened heart, and will remain unrighteous.
· John is not encouraging people to be unrepentant. He is warning them of the outcome!
· The person who heeds the prophecies of Revelation and acts righteously is a saved person who will be righteous and holy to the end.
2. REWARD IS COMING Vs. 12
· Jesus will come quickly. When He comes He will reward believers and unbelievers alike.
· Believers will be judged at The Judgment Seat of Christ. 1 Corinthians 4:1-5, 2 Corinthians 5:10
· Unbelievers will be judged at The Great White Throne. Revelation 20:11-15
3. JESUS IS ETERNAL Vs. 13
· The same statement was made by God in Revelation 1:8. Jesus, making the same statement, indicates His own deity.
· Jesus is the Alpha and Omega, that is like saying He is A to Z.
· He is the beginning and ending. He created all things. He will consummate all things.
4. DONT TAMPER WITH GODS WORD Vss. 18-19
· John is not warning against an honorable different interpretation of the Book of Revelation. He is warning against the willful manipulation of the Word of God.
· Anyone who adds to Scripture or detracts from any Scripture willfully is running the risk of severe judgment. Proverbs 30:5-6
WONDER Vs. 16
· Jesus commissioned His Angel to give the message of Revelation to the churches.
· Jesus shares a little of the wonder of who He is. Only Jesus as God can be the root and off-spring of David at the same time.
· The bright morning star shines just before dawn. Jesus is the light of the world. John 1:4-5, 8:12
WELCOMES Vs. 17
· TO THE LORD JESUS And the Spirit and the bride say Come. And let him that heareth say come.
· God the Holy Spirit is anxiously awaiting the coming of God the Son.
· The Bride of Christ, the church, should be anxiously awaiting the coming of Christ. Titus 2:13
· Any unbeliever who hears the message of Revelation should turn to Christ by faith and then say Come.
· TO THE UNSAVED And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.
· God does not stop being evangelistic.
· The thirsty are invited to come to Christ. John 7:37
· The invitation is still open to all who will come to Christ by faith. Matthew 11:28-30
WISHES Vss. 20-21
1. Even so, come Lord Jesus! Vs. 20
· Jesus reaffirms that He is coming quickly.
· Johns response should be the response of all believers, Even so, come Lord Jesus!
· In response to the glorious teachings of the Book of Revelation, let this be our hearts cry!
2. Grace be with you all! Vs. 21
· The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is wished upon all of us.
· Christs wish for His church is that we would enjoy His grace.

AN INVITATION
(This could easily be made into a Thanksgiving message.)
We all get invitations. Some are to social events. Some are to purchase products. Some are to give our opinions. The best invitations we get are from God. In this text we find:

Psalm 100
TRULY THANKFUL
Perhaps you have become too accustomed to your blessings.
Perhaps you need to be reminded as we approach Thanksgiving Day that there are some things for which you need to be truly thankful.
Psalm 100 is a Psalm of praise and Thanksgiving. (READ PSALM 100 IN UNISON)
I find seven things in verses three and five for which we as Christians should truly be thankful.
THE LORD IS GOD Vs. 3
In other lands and even here in the United States, people worship other Gods. They do not worship the true and living God. Psalm 115:4-8
Idols are dead. Those that worship them are spiritually dead!
However, our God, the true and living God is very much alive! Psalm 115:3, Isaiah 42:8, Isaiah 6:1-4, Revelation 1:8
Why should we be thankful that the Lord is God?
It is He that answers prayer.
It is He that protects.
It is He that forgives and gives eternal life through His Son.
It is He that says I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.
No matter what goes wrong in your life today, the Lord is God!
No matter who is in the White House, the Kremlin, or Buckingham Palace, the Lord is God!
No matter how you feel the Lord is God!
He is always in control.
He is sovereign.
Nothing gets by Him.
Nothing takes Him by surprise!
THE LORD IS CREATOR Vs. 3
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
My life is full of obligations.
But my biggest obligation is to God. One of the reasons that I am obligated to give thanks to God is because He is the one who has given me life. He is my creator.
I wouldnt be here if it werent for my wonderful God who created me.
And the human body is a marvelous creation. Psalm 139:14
GOD IS OUR FATHER Vs. 3
We are his people
When this Psalm was written it was the children of Israel who could say We are his people
Today Gods people are those who are His children.
Because of sin mankind is alienated from God. Isaiah 64:6, Romans 3:10
But God in His love sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to earth to pay for our sins. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Jesus had told a man named Nicodemus in John 3:3, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
You were born the first time into an earthly family.
You need to born again a second time into the Heavenly family.
You are born into the family of God when you place your full faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. John 1:12-13, Romans 8:15-16
Christian, your Heavenly Father loves you.
Christian, your Heavenly Father hears your prayers.
Christian, your Heavenly Father corrects you.
Christian, your Heavenly Father protects you.
Christian, your Heavenly Father is looking out for you.
Of course, this is another reason to be truly thankful!
JESUS IS OUR SHEPHERD Vs. 3
We are his people and the sheep of His pasture.
Remember, our God is a triune God, the Trinity.
God is our Father. God the Son, is our Savior. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, He also becomes our shepherd. John 10:11
What is the job of a shepherd? The job of the shepherd is to take care of the sheep. That is exactly what Jesus, the Good Shepherd does. John 10:27-28
I feel that the best description of Jesus activity as the Good Shepherd is found in the 23rd Psalm.
THE LORD IS GOOD Vs. 5
· You have a home in Heaven. The Lord is good.
· You receive an answer to prayer. The Lord is good.
· You get a raise in pay. The Lord is good.
· A friend finds Christ as Savior. The Lord is good.
· You have a faithful and loving husband or wife. The Lord is good.
· You have great parents and/or kids and grandkids. The Lord is good.
· You lose your job. The Lord is good.
· You are sick. The Lord is good.
· You lose a loved one. The Lord is good.
· Your spouse divorces you, your parents and children despise you. The Lord is good.
The Lord is good no matter what happens to you.
He does not stop being good.
And He does not stop working all things together for good in our lives, even the bad things!
Romans 8:28
THE LORDS MERCY IS EVERLASTING Vs. 5
When it comes to Gods mercy, His loving kindness, there is no limit.
Gods mercy or loving-kindness is at work in my life. I have seen it a lot lately in my own life.
· When potential problems are solved God shows his loving-kindness.
· When He provides guidance God shows his loving-kindness.
· When He provides His peace God shows his loving-kindness.
· When He gives us insights into problems or into His word God shows us his loving-kindness.
And it excites me to think that this loving-kindness to me is everlasting. Many of us have lost Christian loved ones this year. God is still showing them loving-kindness in Heaven. 2 Corinthians 5:8
We too, who know the Lord will experience is mercy throughout all eternity. Revelation 21:3-4
THE LORDS TRUTH (FAITHFULNESS) ENDURES TO EVERY GENERATION
The word translated truth here has also been translated as faithfulness. The word carries the idea of steadiness of firmness.
God is faithful to every generation of those who trust Him. Exodus 34:6-7, Lamentations 3:22-23
Sometimes we get concerned for our children and our grandchildren because of the increase in wickedness and danger in our society. But God has given us His promise that He will be faithful to the next generation of believers as he has been to this generation and all generations in the past.
Psalm 100 has given us 7 reasons to be truly thankful:

APPRECIATION
You might want to tell two stories to introduce this message.
Tell a story that shows true appreciation for something someone has done. Also tell a story about someone who showed a lack of appreciation.
Our text tells the story of two people. One was repentant and showed appreciation for what Jesus had done for her. The other was unrepentant and showed no appreciation.
May we, by our words, thoughts, and actions always show appreciation for our Lord Jesus!
THE PEOPLE, Vss. 36-39
A Repentant Sinner, Vss. 37-38
A Self-Righteous Pharisee, Vss. 36, 29
THE PARABLE Vss. 40-43
The one who is forgiven the most is the most appreciative.
THE POINT Vss. 44-50
The Pharisee had not sought for, nor received forgiveness of his sins, therefore, he showed no sign of appreciation.
The woman had sought for and received forgiveness by faith. She showed her appreciation in her actions.

EVIDENCES OF A THANKFUL HEART
We want to remind you that there are various ways that we can show our appreciation to the Lord for what He has done. There are outward ways of expressing an inward, thankful heart.
We have experienced one way of showing appreciation this evening, the Thanksgiving service. In the Gospel of Luke we want to see 3 men who showed their appreciation for Jesus healing them in 3 ways. Tonight we will look at
ONE WHO WORSHIPPED - Luke 17:11-19
Vss. 11-12 - Ten men were very sick. They had leprosy. It was a disease that ate at the skin, and made one an outcast according to Jewish law.
Because they were outcasts, they stood afar off.
We had a problem like these lepers that was fatal.
It made us outcasts before God.
The problem was our sin.
Vs. 13 - These men had the right idea. They called on the Lord Jesus to have mercy on them. They really had no other hope.
Like these men, we needed mercy. We were dead in trespasses and sins. The only one who could help us was the Lord Jesus, because it was Him who died for us. Like these lepers, we needed to call on the Lord in order to be saved. Romans 10:17 says, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Vss. 14 - These men were told to go show themselves to the priest.
In order for them to get back into society, they needed for the priest to pronounce them as "clean." They took the step of faith to show themselves to the priest, taking Jesus at His word, and as they went, they were healed.
Our healing for salvation was similar. We took God at his word, that he would save us, if we believed, and He did exactly what he promised. John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17
Vss. 15-16 - I think each man saw that he was healed.
However, only one of them turned around, worshipped God, and gave thanks.
What happened to the others?
I think that they were so busy wanting to get back to their lives, that they forgot to say "thank you" and to worship God.
Here is a great reminder for you and I. How thankful are we for what God has done for us.
Our sins have been forgiven.
We have a home in Heaven.
We have the Holy Spirit.
We have answered prayer.
We can't lose our salvation, if we are truly saved.
We are truly loved of God!
Shouldn't we, of all people be giving praise and adoration and thanksgiving to God?!
1 Timothy 1:12-17, Revelation 5:9-12
This thanksgiving season should be one of worship for those of us who know Christ personally. We have reason to worship and praise God!
Vss. 17-19 - There was 90% more cleansed than were actually giving thanks. I wonder if this percentage is true for us who are saved? What percentage of us who are saved are truly thankful?
Let us make sure that we are among the ones who return to give thanks.
We do not like it very well when people fail to give thanks for what we've done. Imagine how God must feel!
ONE WHO WALKED LUKE 18:35-43
Vs. 43 - Bartimaeus followed Jesus after being healed.
He also worshipped God as a result of his healing.
Bartimaeus reminds me that a truly thankful person is someone who will walk after Jesus. Because of what Jesus has done for him in saving him, he will walk after and with Jesus. Luke 9:23-24,
John 15:1-7
ONE WHO WITNESSED LUKE 8:26-39
Vs. 39 - Notice where the man was sent - to his own home.
It meant going back to the people who knew him "when".
It meant going back to the people who knew him best.
We are the ones who can best reach the ones we love.
We are the ones who can best reach the ones we know best.
We are the ones, who should show our appreciation for what the Lord has done for us, by telling others. Psalm 107:2, 1 Peter 3:15

Christ is going to gather all things together under Himself. 2 Corinthians 15:21-28. I believe this well begin with the millennium and culminate with the eternal state. When Christ takes over, we will be settled!
WE ARE SATISFIED - Vss. 11-12
We have our inheritance in Him.
