Ruth 1:1-18
TALE OF THREE WOMEN
INTRODUCTION - Vss. 1-6
There are three women in this story. Naomi had left the Promised Land with her husband during a time of famine. He had died. Naomi's two sons had married Orpah and Ruth. The sons had died as well.
NAOMI CHOSE TO RETURN Vss. 6-7
She once left the promised land and was coming back to the place where she should be. When we do what is wrong, we should return to the ways of our God by repenting of, and forsaking sin. 1 John 1:9, Revelation 2:5
ORPAH CHOSE TO RETREAT Vss. 8-14
Naomi told her daughters-in-law to return home.
There was much trouble ahead for her. At first, Orpah was going to faithfully follow her mother-in-law. Finally however she retreated to
her old way of life. Many people make professions of faith or commitment and then retreat from them when the road gets rough.
RUTH CHOSE TO RETAIN Vss. 15-18
Ruth retained her commitment to her mother-in-law, and her commitment to her mother-in-law's God. In the end, she was the one who was blessed. (She became great grandmother to David. Ruth 4:13-17)

JOHN 13:34-35
THE BADGE
We see people wearing badges all the time.
This morning we want to talk to you about your badge. Thats right, if you are a Christian you have a badge to wear which the Lord Jesus Christ has given you.
Badges are usually worn for identification purposes. Thats why Jesus has given you a badge. Its so people can identify you as one of his followers.
John 13:34-35 - A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
God has made it very clear in His Word that love is supreme. Allow me to remind you of some things said about love in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, 13
THE BADGE EXTENDED (ISSUED)
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another;
When examining a piece of Scripture we need to ask ourselves, Who is talking, and who is the person talking to?
In this case the Lord Jesus is talking in a place called the Upper Room. It was where the last supper was served, and the place where Jesus humbled Himself and took the lowly servants duty of washing the feet of his disciples.
Jesus was not ministering to the multitudes. He was speaking to people who knew Him, loved Him, and trusted Him. He was speaking to His followers. He was speaking to believers!
Jesus did not extend the badge of love to everyone, but to those who were members of Gods family through their faith in Christ.
Today Jesus still does not extend the badge of love to everyone.
· The bade is extended to those who Know they are sinners Romans 3:32, Isaiah 64:6n us away.
· The badge is extended to those who know that Jesus died for their sins and rose from the dead. Romans 5:6-8, 1Corinthians 15:3-4
· The badge is extended to those who have trusted in Jesus Christ alone as their Savior. Romans 10:9-10
If you have trusted Christ as your Savior Jesus extends to you the badge of love that identifies you as one of His.
John 13:34- A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another
Notice that the badge that Jesus is issuing is a new commandment.
It was not new in the sense that people should love their neighbors. Thats found in the Old Testament Love thy neighbor as thyself.
This new commandment of love is not a result of the law, The Ten Commandments.
This new commandment of love for Christians is because we are all members of the same family, the family of God. We are to love one another because each of us Christians has been born into the family of God.
How important is this badge of love?
1 John 4:7-8 - Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
When a person is issued a law enforcement badge, he receives with it authority and responsibility.
Jesus has extended to you the badge of love. With it come authority, responsibility, privilege, and responsibility.
You have Jesus authority (and power) to love others.
You have the responsibility to love others.
You have the privilege of loving others.
THE BADGE EXEMPLIFIED
as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Jesus gave us His own example to follow.
Come with me.
We are going to a garden called Gethsemane. Here Jesus takes His disciples with him to pray. They fall asleep.
In the meantime Jesus is saying, O my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.
His love for the Father and us made Him yield to going to the cross.
Come with me again to Gethsemane. See the man who ate the same food, went to the same places, and did the same things as Jesus did betray Him with a kiss.
What would you say to someone you knew was about to betray you? Jesus simply said, Friend, wherefore art thou come?
Come with me. This time come to a trial before the high priest.
False witnesses are brought in. Jesus is convicted of blasphemy because he told them the truth that He was the Son of God.
Come with me, as we see His own friend and loyal companion Peter deny that He ever knew Jesus.
Come with me and see Jesus humiliated. Look at the guards placing a crown of thorns on the head of Jesus. See them hitting him on the head and spitting in His face. Look now as they pull the very hairs out of His beard.
Come with me to the cross. First, nails are placed in His hands and His feet. Then, they put him up in the air hanging on that cross. Then they make fun of him and taunt Him to come down off the cross.
What does He do?
Does He yell back?
Does He come down and destroy them as he very well could have?
No! Instead He says, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!
Jesus explains the badge we are to wear as Christians. He says that we are to love each other in the same way He loved us.
Do you see the love in His death?
Then let us strive to love each other the same way in life, and, if necessary, dying for each other.
THE BADGE EVALUATED
Jesus says that all men will know that we are His disciples when we love each other!
It is high time that each Christian evaluate his badge of love.
It is high time that we reflect on how important loving each other really is!
Let me ask you 3 questions.
1. IS YOUR BADGE TARNISHED?
When a badge is tarnished, it does not shine like it should.
When our badge is tarnished by sin we will not shine for Christ in love like we should!
There are sins of commission. These are things which we have done to hurt others. Matthew 5:23-24
There are sins of omission. These things that we have failed to do to help others. 1 John 3:16-18
It is time for you to polish up your badge.
Confess your sins and do what is right towards your brothers and sisters.
Proverbs 9:6 - Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
2. IS YOUR BADGE TORN?
Has your badge been ripped in two by bitterness and unforgiveness?
Are you cold and indifferent towards other Christians because you are nursing a bitter spirit?
Bitterness occurs largely because we remember all the nasty things others have done to us and forget all the nasty things we have done to them! Ephesians 4:30-32
3. IS YOUR BADGE TANGIBLE?
Can people see and feel that you love them?
Have you given any indication that you love them by the way you speak, listen and act towards them?
Romans 12:9-18
Based on the passages I just shared, evaluate your love for others. Can others tell that you are a Christian because of your love especially for other Christians

THE SOUND OF TRUMPETS
REVELATION 8-9
THE BACK OF THE BOOK #9
The Earth has had its share of trouble over the years. Here are just a few reminders:
· Trouble with War World Wars I & II
· Trouble with Economy Great Depression
· Trouble with Illness Bubonic Plague
· Trouble with Bias Persecution of the Jews down through the centuries
· Trouble with Natural Disaster Earthquakes, Floods, Hurricanes, Volcanoes, etc. etc.
Mark 13:19-20 - For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
The troubles the world has already faced pale in comparison with the trouble that the world will face as God pours out his judgment during the second half of the Tribulation. Jesus warns us of the severity of the judgment in the passage above. God shortened it for the sake of believers.
In Chapter 7 we saw that God Cares for His Own. The 144,000 were sealed and the Tribulation saints (martyrs) were cared for in Heaven.
In Revelation 8-9 we see the seventh seal opened and out of it come 7 trumpet judgments. These judgments are upon the earth and mankind. They will be like nothing anyone has ever seen before.
PRELUDE TO JUDGMENT 8:1-6
· Vs. 1 There is a brief silence in Heaven when the seventh seal was broken. It is the calm before the storm, a dramatic pause before the terrible events that are to take place.
· Vs. 2 Seven angels are given seven trumpets in preparation.
· Vss. 3-4 Another angel appears. He mixes incense with the prayers of the saints which go up before God.
· Vss. 5-6 Then, perhaps in response to the prayers of the saints, the censer is filled with fire from the altar and cast on earth showing that God was about to judge the earth. The angels prepared to blow their trumpets.
TRUMPET #1 TROUBLE FROM THE SKY 8:7
· Remember, this is a supernatural display of Gods power. God can very easily send, fire, blood, and hail all at the same time.
· The devastation will be awesome. 1/3 of the trees will be destroyed and all grass. The grass, however, will grow back. Revelation 9:4
TRUMPET #2 TROUBLE IN THE SEA 8:8-9
· It is probably a giant meteorite that lands in the sea with devastating results. 1/3 of the sea became blood. 1/3 of the sea creatures were destroyed. 1/3 of the ships were destroyed.
TRUMPET #3 TROUBLE IN FRESH WATER 8:10-11
· Vs. 10 Another body lands from Heaven, but instead of remaining intact breaks up and is dispersed. It affects the fresh water supply.
· Vs. 11 Wormwood was a shrub whose leaves were bitter. This is called wormwood because of the bitterness it puts in the water. In fact, the water will become toxic and many will die after drinking it.
TRUMPET #4 TROUBLE IN THE HEAVENS 8:12-13
· Vs. 12 God allows a reduction in light from the sun, moon, and stars. Imagine how much of normal life will be affected with the loss of 1/3 of the suns heating power!
· Vs. 13 Other translations say that it is an eagle, not an angel, that flies through the sky proclaiming 3 woes. Whether it is an angel or eagle doesnt matter. It is a warning that the next three trumpet judgments are going to be even worse.
TRUMPET #5 TROUBLE OUT OF THE ABYSS 9:1-11
· Vs. 1 The Bottomless Pit or Abyss is a place where demons are imprisoned. Luke 8:31
· The star who fell from Heaven was probably Satan. There will be war in Heaven and he will be kicked out from any influence he will have there as accuser of the brethren. Revelation 12:7-10
· Vs. 2 Satan will be given the key to the Bottomless Pit and will open it.
· Vs. 3 As smoke comes out of this pit, so do demons that will resemble locusts. They will have the destructive power associated with scorpions.
· Vs. 4 As demons do, they will not attack vegetation like normal locusts, but will attack men. They will not be allowed to hurt those who have the seal of God. This will include the 144,000 and perhaps all believers.
· Vss. 5-6 They will not kill men, but will make men so miserable, they will wish they were dead.
· Vss. 7-10 They are formidable creatures who will only be able to do their harm for 5 months.
· Vs. 11 These demons have a leader. His name in Greek and Hebrew means destroyer.
· Vs. 12 The first woe is over.
TRUMPET #6 TROUBLE OUT OF THE EUPHRATES 9:13-19
· Vss. 13-14 The sixth angel sounds his trumpet. He is commanded to release four angels who were kept captive by the river Euphrates. Evidently these are demonic beings who were imprisoned.
· Vs. 15 They had a specific time frame in which to work.
· Vs. 16 Their army was 200 million. This is a huge army assigned to destroy 1/3 of the worlds population.
· Vss. 17-19 It was actually the horses that did the killing. It is possible that this is a human army that used modern weapons of warfare. I tend to think that it is a demonic hoard.
THE TROUBLE WITH MEN 9:20-21
· One would think that this terrible judgment would lead men to repentance, but it wont.
· Vs. 20 They will continue to worship idols.
· Vs. 21 They will continue in murder, witchcraft, sexual impurity and, thefts.
· It is amazing how hardened men can be!

A MODEL MOM (PARENT)
Selected Scriptures
Introduction - Titus 2:3-5 teaches that older women are to be good teachers and models for younger women.
Mary, the mother of our Lord, was not perfect or sinless, but she was a good example of sound parenting for moms and dads alike. Consider:
1. HER CHARACTER
Highly Favored, or "Full of Grace" - She was a saved woman. Luke
1:26-28
2. HER COURAGE 1:30-38
She accepted what the angel had to say, realizing she would be falsely accused of immorality.
3. HER CONTEMPLATION Luke 2:19, 51
Mary meditated on what was said about and by her son.
She attempted to understand. Understanding is something all
ourchildren need.
4. HER CONFIDENCE John 2:1-11
Mary believed in her son. See Vs. 5
5. HER COMMITMENT John19:25
Mary stayed committed to her son right up to the cross!

JOHN 13:34-35
THE BADGE
We see people wearing badges all the time.

A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another;

Are you cold and indifferent towards other Christians because you are nursing a bitter spirit?

3. IS YOUR BADGE TANGIBLE?
Can people see and feel that you love them?
Have you given any indication that you love them by the way you speak, listen and act towards them?
