Teachers in their own preparations, as well as students of the Word in their studies.

These outlines are only "seeds".  They are not sermons ready for you to

preach.  Feel free to improve on these outlines any way the Lord leads

you.

These outlines are based on the King James Version of the Bible, but are usually a “fit” with other translations.

MATTHEW 1:18-25 – WHEN PLANS CHANGE

INTRO: Give examples of times when people’s plans were changed through sickness, death, disobedience of another, or disaster of some kind. Then tell how God helped during the problem.

We’ll all face change!

How do we handle it?

Joseph helps us.

Joseph’s Dilemma – Vs. 18

Espoused (equivalent to marriage, but the marriage had not been consummated.)  to Mary, now she’s pregnant. “What do I now?”

MATTHEW 1:25 – GOD WITH US

Matthew 1:21-23 (KJV) - And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Jesus is:

GOD WITH US WHEN WE SIN – 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 2:1-2

GOD WITH US WHEN WE SORROW – Matthew 11:28-30

GOD WITH US WHEN WE NEED STRENGTH – Philippians 4:13

GOD WITH US WHEN WE ARE SINNED AGAINST – Matthew 10:24-25

MATTHEW 2:1-12 – WISE MEN STILL

There are many wise people mentioned in the Bible.

There were Enoch and Noah, wise enough to walk with God.

There was Ruth, wise enough to say to her Jewish mother-in-law,

"...for whither thou goest I will go; and whither thou lodgest, I will lodge; Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God; (Ruth 1:16)

There was Andrew, who was wise enough to bring people to Jesus.

There was David, who was wise enough to confront Goliath when nobody else would and to say "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

There was Martha, wise enough entertain Jesus in her home.

There was Martha's sister, Mary, wise enough to sit at Jesus’ feet and hear His word.

And, of course, there were the wise men, who visited Jesus when he was born.

There are still wise men (and women) today. God is looking for wise men who will imitate the qualities of the wise men of Matthew 2.

So, who were the wise men?

  • We know very little about them.
  • They have been known as the “three kings”, but we do not know that they were kings.
  • We do not even know that there were three of them.  The idea of there being three wise men comes from the fact that they brought three gifts.
  • The word used for wise men is actually “magi”, the word from which we get the word, magic.  They were specialists in astronomy.
  • They were monotheistic, believing in one God.

Evidently God spoke to them through the stars.  Having seen “His star”, they came to worship Him.

WISE PEOPLE STILL COME - Vss. 1-10

They were Gentiles. This was Indicative that Jesus came for the whole world, Jews and Gentiles alike.

Probably traveled hundreds of miles, thought they were rich, it was an inconvenience.

Wise men still come for salvation.

Wise enough to know they are sinners who need a Savior.

1 Corinthians 5:21, Ephesians 2:8-9, Revelation 22:17

Wise men still come for fellowship.  John 15:4-5, 7

Vss. 3-10 – Comment

WISE PEOPLE STILL WORSHIP - Vss. 2, 11

He is God – John 1:1-2

He should be worshipped. Don’t miss it. Revelation 5:12

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, etc.

WISE PEOPLE STILL GIVE - Vs. 11

Gold – 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Frankincense – Psalm 141:2, Revelation 5:8

Myrrh – Used in embalming – Luke 9:23-24

WISE PEOPLE STILL LISTEN - Vs. 12

Hear what God is saying. Matthew 11:15

Do it. John 14:15

WISE PEOPLE STILL SHARE – Vs. 2

Public Venue – Willing to share our faith. – Romans 1:16

LUKE 1:39-55 – MARY’S SONG

I would say that every true Christian has a song in his or her heart. Sometimes, mostly, the songs in our hearts are songs that others have written. Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross, Living for Jesus, Blessed Assurance, At Calvary,                                     How Great Thou Art.

One of the most famous Christian Songs ever composed came straight from the heart, out of the mouth, and was inspired by God’s Holy Spirit.

Mary had received the announcement that she would be the Mother of the Son of God in Luke 1:26-38 (Review).

There are things we learn about worship and our own song as we study “Mary’s Song”

MARY APPRECIATED GOD’S KINDNESS TOWARDS HER – Vss. 48-49

  • Mercy – Vs. 50

Luke 12:4-7

  • Strength – Vss. 51-52
