I have been doing part of my daily devotionals using the S.O.A.P. methodIt is easy to get caught into the trap of only going to the Word in preparation for ministry. Or at least that can happen to me. So this is an attempt to take time in the Word for me. Although I have never been good at journaling, this method requires me to take time to write something down.SOAP: Scripture - Observation - Application - PrayerFirst I pick a Scripture text from my daily reading plans, then I take a little while to just prayerfully think about what it says. Next, I write down what I Observed that the text is saying to me. The third thing is to write down how what I observed should be Applied in my life. And finally, I write down my Prayer regarding the application. When I am on the road it is difficult to get online and post, but maybe this is something that we could be willing to do also and to share from time to time. Here is my SOAP from today...Scripture:As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them. (Mark 5:18-20 NLT) emphasis vs 19Observation:The delivered man wanted to just stay with Jesus from then on, but Jesus told him to go and tell his own first.Application:When God does something in our lives, our first obligation is to share with our own family, friends, and relatives. Before we shout from the roof tops, we need to speak into the lives of our home.Prayer:Father, help me to take time to share the great things you are doing with my family first. Instead of me just basking in your presence, let me pass on your testimonies to my children and grandchildren so they will be continually drawn into your presence and service, too.In His Service

SOAP: Scripture - Observation - Application - Prayer
First I pick a Scripture text from my daily reading plans, then I take a little while to just prayerfully think about what it says.
Here is my SOAP from today...
Scripture:
As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. But Jesus said, “No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.” So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them. (Mark 5:18-20 NLT) emphasis vs 19
Observation:
The delivered man wanted to just stay with Jesus from then on, but Jesus told him to go and tell his own first.
Application:
When God does something in our lives, our first obligation is to share with our own family, friends, and relatives. Before we shout from the roof tops, we need to speak into the lives of our home.
Prayer:
Father, help me to take time to share the great things you are doing with my family first. Instead of me just basking in your presence, let me pass on your testimonies to my children and grandchildren so they will be continually drawn into your presence and service, too.
