Strawberry Festival

Well, I am finally getting around to posting this about my trip on
Friday, June 9th. Life around here has been a bit crazy lately, but it
should settle down soon.Anyway, it took me about two hours to drive to Augusta, Ohio from my
home in Richfield. For those of you with a map, Richfield is northwest
of Akron and Augusta is southeast of Canton. The roads east of Canton
are in the country, so dodging tractors and other slow moving vehicles
took some time. After stopping and asking for directions and getting the "turn left at
the spotted cow" type of answer, I arrived a bit late, just after 7 pm
and I ended up with a few other cars at the tail end of the parade
heading into town. It took another 45 minutes to cross town while kids
ran into and across the road, picking up candy and balloons that was
thrown from the various vehicles and floats. Augusta is nice, though
having only one road going through it kind of limits the traffic and I
did not want to four-wheel it across the corn fields.Once I got to the fair, I found Pastor Michael Bullock and asked where
to set up. It took a while to find out where the Pastor's float was to
be. I helped a little with hoisting the mast (the float was a pirate
ship) and getting them settled. The church was registering kids for
their VBS. I then parked my car nearby and set up the DragonRaid table.
It got dark about a half an hour later. The Strawberry Festival itself was smaller than I was expecting, but it
was nice for a country fair. There were a couple of game booths, some
clothing and toy sales, snow cones, cotton candy, a Karaoke/dance floor
(line dancing after dark) and a food concession in a permanent building.
Lots of kids running around throwing popping things, whatever they were.
Right next to the food concession was the tractor pull. Food smells
interesting when mixed with diesel exhaust.I passed out some free dice and candy to interested kids and a few
adults took some flyers. Mostly, I talked to Pastor Michael's son
Brandon
and one of his DR players.I stayed until about 10 pm. Had a very clear night and an almost a full
moon on the way home. Nice trip over all, but I never did see a
strawberry.Joe
