Is anyone sad? Then let him pray,
And give to God his worried load;
Let joy sing loud along the way,
With praise for Christ who paved the road.
For every tear God bends his ear,
For every hurt he makes reply;
The grateful heart finds songs of cheer,
That swiftly up to heaven fly.
Like Christ himself, the saint can feel
The fullest range of bliss and woe,
God does not fear the man who is real,
'Tis such a one whom God may know.
