Thankfulness

Posted by: Asn <Asn@...>

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. Psalm 95:1-3

Ah, Thanksgiving. Traditionally, a time of family gatherings, lots of food - and lots of stress. Yes, the holidays are here again. And, somewhere in the midst of planning and cooking and eating and armchair quarterbacking and navigating the family struggles, it's so easy to forget that this day is a reminder to be thankful to God.

We have so much to be thankful for: a roof over our head, a warm bed to sleep on, food on the table, safe water to drink, reliable cars to drive, and the money to put gas in them - and a number of other things worthy of thanksgiving but too easily taken for granted. Add to that the immense sacrifice of Jesus to pay the price for my sin and your sin, the boundless love of Father God, and the promise of an eternity loving Him and being loved by Him, and there is never a shortage of things to be eternally grateful for. Sadly, though, there are times when we feel it's not enough. Discouragement comes when we lose sight of all there is to be thankful for.

Heavenly Father, You have been so good to me. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for loving me. Thank you for watching over me and working all things together for good for me. Thank You for Your provision, for the people You have sent into my life, for the Holy Spirit. Thank You for Jesus. Thank You for another day, another breath, another heartbeat. I give it back to You in thanksgiving and praise because You alone deserve it. Thank You for being my God, and my heavenly Father. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
