IT’S SEASONAL!
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
- What is your favorite season of the year and why?
- Why do we have seasons of weather?
- What, so far, has been your favorite “season of life”?
- Why do we have “seasons of life”?
- What can’t you do any more because the season of life has changed? What can you do now that you couldn’t do before?
- How does Romans 8:28 help us to handle the seasons of life?
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that there really are seasons in our lives. We can’t escape them!
We must learn to adapt and trust God through whatever season in which we happen to be!
1. A time to be born, and a time to die;
- There is nobody who was born at the wrong time. Why?
- Everybody needs a second birth. John 3:6-7
- There are two types of death. One can be avoided. Hebrews 9:27-28, Psalm 116:15, Revelation 20:15
2. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
- In a Spiritual sense, what do we plant and when?
- When we pluck up that which is planted we are either gathering the fruit or removing that which is no longer productive.
- What are some of the fruits we Christians should look for?
- Why should we remove what is unproductive?
3. A time to kill, and a time to heal;
- When are the proper times to kill? Genesis 9:6
- When are the proper times to heal?
- In a spiritual sense, what should we kill and what should we heal? See Colossians 3:5-7, Galatians 6:1
4. A time to break down, and a time to build up;
- In church what should we be pulling down?
- What should we be building up? Ephesians 4:11-12, Ephesians 4:29
5. A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
6. A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
- What are some of the typical times for weeping and mourning?
- What are some of the typical times for laughing and dancing?
- Why is it bad when people laugh and dance when they should be weeping and mourning, and vice-versa?
- Psalms 30:5 - For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
7. A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
- Stones are a hindrance when they are keeping us from serving God. What might some of those stones be? Hebrews 12:1, 1 Peter 2:1-3
- Stones are a help when we can build upon them. What might some of these stones be? 2 Peter 1:5-9
8. A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
- When are hugs appropriate?
- When are hugs inappropriate?
9. A time to get, and a time to lose;
- The word “get” has been translated “seek” or “search”. There are times to look for things we’ve lost. There are also times when we have to give them up for lost. Can you think of any examples?
10. A time to keep, and a time to cast away;
- What are some things we should strive to keep in our lives? Philippians 4:8
- What are some things we should cast away in our lives? Psalm 101:3
11. A time to rend, and a time to sew;
- What are some things people need to “rip up”, literally, and figuratively?
- When is it time to sew up or mend relationships? Romans 12:16-18
12. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
- When is it time to be quiet? Proverbs 10:19, 11:13
- When is it time to speak? Psalm 107:2, Proverbs 11:14, Proverbs 18:13
13. A time to love, and a time to hate;
- Who should we love? Deuteronomy 6:4-6, Matthew 22:37-40, 1 John 4:7-8
- What should we hate?
14. A time of war, and a time of peace.
- Our war is against “the world, the flesh, and the devil”. We must be properly armed to fight that war. Ephesians 6:10-18
- With whom should we have peace? Romans 5:1, Philippians 4:6-7, Isaiah 26:3, Romans 12:18
