The Authority of the Bible

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust
in Him.Proverbs 30:5

of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of

Many people dismiss the bible as nothing more than a historical book
with no relevance to modern times. It is certainly true that the bible
is rich in history: earth's beginnings, the history of Israel as a
people, the ancient cities through which they traveled and with whom
they dwelt, and the customs of civilizations and generations long past. But the bible is so much more than a collection of history, poetry, and
parables. It is much greater than the real people whose stories are
recorded in its pages. It is not an accidental collection of partial
texts that must have other texts to explain or complete it. And
contrary to popular myth, the bible proves itself again and again. The
bible is the inspired word of God - every scripture "God-breathed;"
every scripture "useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training;" every scripture necessary in equipping you and me to live in
right standing with God and fulfill His purposes in the earth. In the Psalms, David speaks often of his love for God's word. "I
rejoice at Your word as one who finds great spoil" (Psalm 119:162).
"Your word is very pure (tried and well refined); therefore Your servant
loves it" (Psalm 119:140).Jesus quoted scripture throughout His life, from the days of astounding
the rabbis at the age of 12 to the agonizing hours on the cross. In
John 14:15, He says, "If you love Me, keep My commands." If we do not
know what God has said, how can we keep His commands? If you are not
currently reading the bible on a daily basis, I challenge you to begin
today. You can find reading plans and several bible translations online
at www.biblegateway.com.Father, thank You for Your word. Truly, it is a lamp unto my feet and a
light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). Show me Your ways, oh Lord, and
teach me Your paths that I may walk with You. In Jesus' precious name.
Amen.To subscribe: <adevotionalgroup-subscribe@welovegod.org>
